Note: I'm a wanker and forgot about this in all the excitement here at home.
Ever since her brother's return to the palace, Nicolette had wanted to throw a huge party. She was excited to have her brother back with her and even more-so over the fact that her family was back in one piece. She wanted to put the entire last two centuries behind her and fake the whole "happy family" routine in order to fool herself into complete happiness. It was a noble idea that she was trying to pursue, even if it was foolish. She had pushed and, eventually, everyone gave in. After all, she was the queen. If she wanted to throw a party, then she should. Of course, this party was under the guise of a fund raiser. Money needed to be raised for those who had been effected by the recent natural disasters and, so, she decide to make a party that even the public could attend... if the had the money to do so. The civilians couldn't throw a fit about a lavish party where the guests had to pay so much per head in order to be able to "donate" the rest to drought relief fund. She had her ways of manipulating everything and this was just another of those lovely little ways. It was decided that the party would be a costume party. A masquerade of sorts. Something fun so she could associate freely. Of course, everyone would be properly searched and looked over before they could go anywhere close to her, but she hoped that her family would have enough sense to understand that she was fully capable of defending herself if, heaven forbid, someone actually did try to kill her at her own party. Pitiful attempt it would be considering her own son had already promised to make anyone that even tried to kill her pay with their very life. They'd probably never even make it to the treason and assassination trial because he'd have them killing themselves in their own cell. Oh, she was so very proud of that boy of hers. It made her glow just thinking about him. She gave the ORPI very little time to put together the party. They pressed hard to be in control of it all and, rather than fight, she allowed them to handle the invitations and the decorations as long as she was allowed to choose the theme and her own damn costume. Originally, she was going to be the Christians' Virgin Mary, but was "advised" that she might offend someone so she gave that thought up. Instead, she pulled out one of her mother's old dresses and had herself put together as a courtly lady from long ago. It suited her really, but she would have rather been that Mary-lady. The party was slated to begin at nine, but Nicolette did not make her appearance until ten simply because she knew she'd need to give a speech about the reason they were all there. She hadn't felt ready at nine. Plus, she was still trying to press the rest of her family into getting downstairs before she made her appearance. Several of them weren't enthused, especially her brother, but she wasn't about to destroy her happy fantasy. Eventually, the Queen was led downstairs to a thunderous applause where she took a microphone and began her short speech about their charity. "We've gathered today not only for a good time, but also to raise money for those unfortunate souls who lost a great deal of their livelihoods due to the recent weather events. I don't want it to be said that the royal family does not remember these people during their hard times. That is why, tonight, we donate everything possible to the relief of the people of the north and west. Please... I know you've paid for your invitations, but we should all consider donating as much as possible in order to help our sisters and brothers in need." There was more to say, but most of it was forgotten after she'd finished. Instead, she wished only to dance and be seen. Her life was finally beginning to fall back into place just the way she wanted it to be. Hopefully, it would be like this for quite a while. |
