Who: Nathan Darkhart.
NPCs: Rexton Bayard.
When: Week Eleven, Friday night.
Where: Silver City, Darkhart manor.
What: Nathan follows Rexton Bayard and makes a promise.
Rating & Warnings: PG, I think. It's still pretty 'innocent'.
The news of Rex Bayard's return to Silver City was one that hadn't failed to reach Nathan's ears. Gunslingers were disliked, but one who was a demon? It was nothing but an abomination, but also posed a danger. If one could untangle the connections from Rex Bayard to all the other demon families, one would quickly realize that this man was related to all of them, in one way or another, but especially so to the Etheridges and Darkharts. And if one were to look into old court records, one would easily enough find proof that this man once had been considered worthy enough to be taken into the Darkhart family. Who was to say that Rex Bayard wouldn't spill their secrets to that Order of this in time to come? Or already had? Nathan was certain that he carried no loyalty toward them and that such a moment probably was near. And Rex Bayard couldn't be bought. It figured. The only demon gunslinger in town, and Nathan couldn't make him go astray. He had tried before, but also failed just as many times. It was honestly more pressure than Nathan could stand. Such a slap in the face. And out of sight was out of heart, as far as Nathan was concerned. He'd been glad to see the traitor go. Mine Town could have had him for all eternity and Nathan would have been pleased, but now? Now this traitor was here, walking his streets and probably just about to arrest his own minions in a never-ending quest of justice. It was utterly and completely repulsive - a demon who sided with the mortals - even had married one and adopted six of them. Perhaps humanity had gotten to him, he couldn't say. Perhaps his cousin twice removed had lost his mind after all, as he had. But one thing he knew for certain: Rex Bayard was dangerous and needed to be disposed of and it was a job he was more than willing to tackle himself. Not instantly, however. Nathan Darkhart had patience in spades. His duster flew free behind him as he followed the man through the crowds on the streets, keeping meticulously track of the man's movements, and going to great lengths not to be noticed. He knew this city like the back of his own hand - and Rex, well, one would only assume he'd not kept track of the city's continued improvements. Silver City simply wasn't the same ol' town as it had been two hundred years ago. It took many hours of restless roaming to get to know this shining dame and maps were only a superficial aid. Surprise hit Nathan only briefly when he realized that his cousin was headed for 'home', the Bayard manor. It was beginning to look as if his sources had been wrong. But the older neighborhoods were the quieter ones, where few gunslingers could be expected to foil his plans. Just as good a place as any to start and Nathan finally stopped, head lifted up in defiance at the man who walked on for a few more paces but then also, stopped without making himself known. "I will get you, traitor. Even if it kills me." |
