Who: Marek Bosko & OPEN Jack Fitzgerald
What: A kitten with a healing heart...
When: 08/27/2016; Afternoon
Where: Local Coffee Shop near campus.
Rating: Low

Marek was a happy go lucky type of guy. It was just his nature. So quick to give out smiles, happily talking to and being near other people. A ray of sunshine influencing those around him without even meaning to. He was not some perfect ray of sunshine, though. Even in his life, there were cloudy days and storms. Even the ceaselessly happy had days of sadness and depression.

He'd come into the coffee shop in a happy enough mood with school work to do. He'd brought his laptop with him and got his iced latte and a muffin to pick at. Moving to a table near an outlet he got out his laptop, booted it up and plugged in earbuds. With his player up and running he set it to random and then dove into his work.

Then Adele played. A song that had been just a song before; a good one, but just a song. That is until it gained more meaning to him. His fingers slowed and stopped. The cheery air around him faded. 'Set Fire To The Rain' touched on his life too closely, speaking of the years he'd spent on Basil. How it had been forever to him until he realized those feelings had never been returned the entire time. He sat looking down at the keyboard of his laptop as Adele sang of a broken heart that so closely matched his own, even now months later.

Jack had finished his office hours for the day and had no other meetings so he quickly made his way off-campus. Instead of going home, however, he made his way to his new favorite coffee shop. He had started going there during the summer and it was there he had met the ray of sunshine that was Marek Bosko.

Jack smiled at the thought of the young man who always had a bright smile and a kind word to share with others, but he reminded himself that the coffee shop was a nice place to go simply to have some tea and grade papers. It had nothing to do with the young man....not one bit.

That didn't stop Jack from looking around as he entered the coffee shop, his gaze landing on the young man and he smiled slightly to himself. He placed his order for his usual tea and then went and placed his briefcase down at a table close to Marek's. Something seemed off though, like something was weighing heavily on the boy. He stepped over, placing a gentle hand on his shoulder. "Is everything alright, Marek?" He asked before realizing that he had headphones in his ears.

Lost within the song and his thoughts Marek didn't really notice when someone sat their things nearby, which was odd in and of itself. Even listening to music as he was he would have caught the movements. as ti was he didn't untilt he hand came down on his shoulder, which startled Marek slightly and had him jumping a bit. He looked up and blushed as he saw it was Jack who had caught him lost in thought.

Reaching up he pulled out the earbuds, giving the man a slight sheepish smile, a bit of that sadness lingering about him. "Hi, sorry, I didn't hear you." Turning to his laptop he stopped the music player and then stashed his ear buds away, planning on giving the man his full attention.

Jack smiled, noting the blush that fell on Marek's cheeks at being caught lost in thought. He shook his head, knowing that it was his own fault for not being as observant in his eagerness to check on the young man. "No need for apologies. I was merely asking if everything was okay. You don't seem your usual cheerful self." He repeated, distracted for a moment as the barista brought over his cup of tea and the pot of hot water. He thanked her and set them down at his own table before turning his attention back to Marek.

There was a brief moment where Marek just blinked up at the man as his mind scrambled and backpedaled to the moment before. His eyes then dropped away and he forced another smile out as he settled back in his chair again. "I'm alright, just some not so happy memories." He then peaked up at Jack through his lashes shyly. "thank you for worrying, though. But you don't have to."

Jack returned the smile cautiously. He shook his head at that last comment though. He knew he did not have to worry about the young man, but he found himself doing so regardless. "I'm sure you have many that worry over you, but indulge an old man." He winked at him, taking his seat but still facing Marek. "How is school going so far? Are you enjoying your classes?"

Jack's words left Marek with a little warm feeling that made Marek feel a little shy and had him glancing down a moment. "You're not all that old, sir." Marek eventually said. Really, he didn't think that Jack was old at all. Older than Marek was, sure, and more mature. But he was so very handsome and nice and big and strong.

"School is good. I like it, learning all of these things. I'm learning new things on a guitar, have a bunch of new sheet music for my piano. And I have a couple high school kids I'm giving voice lessons to help with experience for once I'm done. With my grades and that experience, I think I'll do very good once I graduate. I'm going to sub and take on some more one-on-one teaching." He grinned, instantly brightening up with the topic of conversation. "How're your classes going, sir?"

Jack smiled, taking a sip of his tea. "No? Well that is very kind of you to say, Marek. I don't feel that old but alas, the grey hair tells me a different story when I look in the mirror." He grinned brightly as Marek told him all about his lessons and the lessons he was giving to others. "That is wonderful to hear, Marek. I would love to hear you play sometime." He shrugged slightly. "Oh they are going just fine. We are covering ancient Greece right now in the majority of them which is always interesting to discuss and see what everyone knows...mainly that it is the foundation of democracy and the olympics."

Marek blushed lightly and glanced away as the thoughts he had in that moment easily passed his lips without pause. "I don't think the grey hairs make you seem old either. It looks very nice on you." And it did, to Marek. He thought it made Jack look rather distinguished.

At the mentioning of wanting to hear Marek play at some point Marek's eyes blinked and he looked up, surprised by this. Surprised that Jack would take such interest and pleased. Though there was a part of him that said Jack could just be saying it to say it. That little part of him that had appeared after Basil. "Anytime, sir. I would be happy to play for you." He grinned widely. "Oh, the Greeks are interesting. History period is interesting. Well, not so much all the wars and fighting and the just plain bad things. But it is still very interesting."

Jack let his eyes linger on the blush even as Marek looked away. "Well that is very kind of you to say." He repeated again, chuckling but thankful that Marek thought the grey hair looked nice on him. He could tell that he had surprised Marek by mentioning that he wanted to hear him play, but Jack kept his gaze on the younger man. "I wouldn't want to interfere with your studies, but perhaps this weekend? If not, that is fine. I enjoy music. My mother was always filling our house with music when I was growing up." He gave him a reassuring smile and nodded. "You can learn a lot from history, that is for certain. You can learn a lot from the mistakes of others."

Jack was really a rather nice man. The nicer he was, the more Marek wanted to be around him. So polite and considerate. Not wanting to interfere with his studies. Such a thing was just... so nice. "I would like tom but..." he bit his lower lip and ducked his head. "I don't have a slave yet, father is looking for one for me. Until he does I've promised to not have no visitors that he or my brothers haven't approved of." He looked down at his hands in his lap, wrestling with the right words to say in order to explain.

"Someone once hurt me, and tried to continue to do so. So they're a little protective of me, I guess. They're Reigners and I'm the only Acquiescent among my siblings, so..." he gave a little shrug, afraid to look up and see any indication that Jack thought he was too much trouble to deal with now.

Jack frowned slightly at the sight of the lowered head. He nodded slightly as Marek explained. "I'm sorry to hear that that happened to you but it is completely understandable that they would be protective of you. Are you able to visit others? I do have a piano that is gathering dust, or perhaps I could meet them?" Jack paused, realizing how absurd all of this sounded. "I fear I am overstepping. I simply don't want you to not be able to spend time with me if you wish to, because of that. I apologize if that is out of line."

Marek was not expecting the response from Jack that he got. He looked up halfway through, slightly confused. How could Jack be so accepting? He had a past, baggage. Experience others would find too much to deal with. A family too much to deal with. An ex-fiance who'd hurt him, and could possibly still want to hurt him. How could this man be so understanding?

Marek's eyes widened and then his expression softened. "No, don't apologize. Please. You're so nice and understanding. I just... I don't know why. I'm nothing special. If anything, I just cause problems." Reaching up he began to fiddle with the kitty charm on his ever-present collar. The one tell of his pet status, if one was in the know. "If you would like, there is a music room on campus. I could play for you there."
