Life was good, or as good as it could be considering the world had gone to hell in a hand basket. If anyone had told Richard Perkins a year ago that a goddamn zombie apocalypse would be the downfall of society he'd have laughed in their face. That shit was for Hollywood, but no, it'd come right to their doorstep and took the damned door off its hinges.

Richard was aware that he was a lucky man. He had his family with him when most people had lost everything. He thanked God every night for sparing them, for being able to get his kids home to their family before it all went to bunk. Here they were though, making the best of if by working hard and doing their part to help. That was all that they could do, and Richard prayed hard every night that life would continue to be good and that they'd make it out.

The warm autumn sun felt nice against his skin as he walked down the street. He had no particular destination in mind, although he knew that soon he'd have to head to front gate to start his shift. He was hoping for another quiet night out front, but who knew what could or would happen. He gave a nod to a few people as he passed, "Afternoon." They gave a wave back, and Richard slowed his pace just so he could enjoy the feeling of being one of the lucky ones.

As usual, Madisyn was checking everything. Weapon conditions, ammo reserves, and she always had a rough estimation of other supplies in her head. Of course, she figured that supplies were starting to get a little low, which meant that it was highly likely Finn would be by sometime soon, confirming another venture out to gather what could be salvaged. Which meant that she would be going out.

And she wasn't going to do that without first knowing the condition of every gun she carried. Sometimes, a working gun was the only thing between you living or not coming back. After all the crap that she'd been through, she intended to come back. For whomever it was that she was sent with to make it back. She knew, deep down, that at some point, she would fail. Military trained you for a lot of contingencies, but zombies somehow wasn't something that was standard training for. Especially given those she'd be going with weren't military trained, likely had no formal training, and were perhaps even apt to think that one was supposed to shoot gangster style, wild spraying of bullets all over the place.

As she stripped her rifle, checking each part and putting it back together, the glanced up, noting Richard as he entered, giving a nod to him. "Afternoon."
