Esme wrapped her arms around Remus' shoulders as he lifted her up, and she couldn't help but feel her heart flutter just a bit. After all, she was a natural born romantic and he'd swooped in once she got hurt and was carrying her to the Hospital Wing despite obviously being very sick. It was incredibly sweet.
The corners of her lips turned up in a grin at stories of his childhood. She wasn't surprised that his parents were scholars--it explained a lot about his habits and demeanor. When he asked about her childhood, though, she grew silent for a moment. "Uhm...no, I didn't have pets," she said, thinking back. She tried not to consider her actual childhood part of her life anymore--thinking back on it just pained her. "Um. I pretty much..." she faltered for a moment. She'd been pushing herself to open up to more people about her past, in her attempts to come to terms with it. After all, if she held it all in, it would just tear at her forever. "...lived in a group home for most of my life."
Then, eager to switch the subject, "Oh, but if I had a pet, I'd want a dog for sure. Though I guess I have a dog now," she said with a big grin--partially forced. She leaned against his shoulder for a moment to glance back at Reggie, who was more or less following them, stopping to sniff occasionally but always running back.
