"Well," Florean grinned. "The house points would only get lost if the person got caught. Hypothetically speaking, of course." Now that the seed for the idea had been planted in his head, he could practically feel the roots burrowing into his mind. It wouldn't be that disruptive to classes, really, the Ravenclaw part of him hurried to point out. The lessons could just be replaced with ones consisting of inanimate object transfiguration, and maybe it would help raise awareness of the cruelty to animals within the class among the student body and people would start insisting on non-animal lessons. Florean felt a tiny frisson of excitement over the idea go through him. Maybe he wouldn't try to act on the idea immediately, since they had no idea what was going on with everyone's magic or how long it would last, but it was definitely something he was going to keep in mind.
And maybe, he thought, lightly brushing the shoulder of Regulus's robes with the tiniest bit of his fingernails with the arm he had wrapped around his shoulders and hoping the other boy wouldn't take much notice of it, he might be able to convince Regulus to help him out.
When Regulus seemed to settle into him, Florean couldn't help but hold his breath for a few moments, relief and happiness fighting inside him, before he remembered to breathe again. "Uh, no, yeah, you do feel a little warmer than you did earlier," he said, trying to sound normal and calm and like a sane person would, and knowing that he probably wasn't succeeding as well as he would have liked. "And I'm glad you and Apollo seem to getting along. Pets are wonderful. Caesar was always..." His mind suddenly flashed back to the image of the decimated owlery. Closing his eyes for a moment and shaking his head, he forced to image to the back of his mind. "Well. You know. He was a good owl."
Florean was thankful when Regulus changed the subject to ice cream. Definitely something he could get excited about and was more than eager to discuss, and it would help get his mind off of the brief slump of depression the mention of the owlery had brought on. "Well, the batch that I had prepared is probably melting right now." He wrinkled his nose at the thought of having to clean out the sticky, melted ice cream from the expandable storage area he kept in his trunk for that. But it wasn't as though it would be the first time that had happened, so he supposed it wouldn't be too big a deal. "But now that I've got the recipe down, I can remake it anytime. As a matter of fact, I think I might like to play with that flavour a little more." His eyes were wide and happy and excited and, even though Regulus couldn't see that, no doubt he could feel the way Florean's hands were gesticulating as he spoke. "The way I have it now, the different colours are kind of separating into, like, swirls. But I'm wondering if I can't make it turn out into three separate colours, like Neopolitan, or if it would taste better if it were all just blended into a light, uniform orange."
