There was another flash of lightning, which lit up the corridor in that brief, extremely bright sort of way that made the whole place seem that much darker when it had faded, and Florean was pulled out of his thoughts when he heard a voice calling, "Apollo!" somewhere nearby. He glanced around, squinting in the dark, but failed to see anything in the gloom and, really, it hadn't sounded quite that close anyway. But it had sort of sounded like Regulus and he was pretty sure that Apollo was the Slytherin's new cat's name. Feeling hopeful, Florean stood up and kept a hand against the wall in order to feel his way forward towards the voice and keep his bearings at the same time.
"Regulus?" he called out, rather softer than he'd been aiming for, feeling a bit timid. He was really hoping that it was, in fact, Regulus he had heard. The idea of spending time alone in the dark with Regulus, when they had originally just been planning to have a casual chat in the not-nearly-so-intimate setting of the well-lit library may have had his stomach fluttering in strange ways that Florean refused to let himself speculate about too much, but the idea of running into someone else instead was decidedly less pleasant. The thought of spending any time alone in the dark with some random Slytherin - aside from Regulus and maybe Andromeda Black - made his stomach flutter in a less pleasant sort of way.
There was another lightning flash and Florean could see that he was nearing a corner in the corridor. He sighed. It was this stupid darkness. It was making him paranoid. He wasn't normally prone to crazy Slytherins-will-all-jump-me imaginings. Most of the Slytherins were perfectly civilized, even if he often sensed that little bit of sneering condescension when a lot of them would talk to him. There was no reason to think that they wouldn't continue to be perfectly civilized, just because the lights were out. He'd just been having too many bad dreams or something, Florean concluded, forcing his crazed fantasies out of his mind and calling out again. "Is that you, Regulus?"
