Marlene bit her tongue as soon as that whimper slipped out. Dissolving into panic would help no one. Clearly her wand was not working. She was possibly the highest marked student her year in Charms, if she could not cast Lumos it was not happening. So Marlene swallowed her panic best she could and pocketed her wand. Her hands were shaking a little but there was only so much she could do. Thankfully Professor Ogden seemed to have a better handle on the situation than she did. Merlin she was not some child that broke into tears the moment something went wrong. There was the fact that she was still technically a child, but Marlene had given up on allowing herself that luxury.
She could hear him fumbling around in the drawer. For what was answered quickly enough as a match was struck and gave off a dim light. He was back by her before she knew it and part of her had to admit that it was a relief. As far as she knew, Ogden was someone she could rely on at least somewhat.
Try as she might to keep everything in, she came a little undone when his hand touched her shoulder. While she managed to control the instinctive flinch, Marlene could not keep the slight tremble from her bottom lip. "The people who have been doing everything. The ones attacking the muggles and muggleborns, the ones that killed that Ravenclaw girl." she whispered before she could stop herself.
