A weak little smile slipped out as he attempted to reach out to her. Now that she had categorized that he did not in fact know anything about her current situation, she felt a little more at ease with this meeting. Professor Ogden was not exactly known for offering up help to students. He was certainly no Professor Slughorn, who seemed to spend too much time integrating himself in with the students. The fact that he was reaching out to her was a novelty, one that spoke more than perhaps he thought it should. He saw enough of something in her to want to reach out when he thought she was upset, he paid enough attention to her to notice. To Marlene this signaled a potential ally within the faculty to her. Someone with distance from her own position and authority that she could perhaps turn to when things became dire.
It was a thought that perhaps she should confide at least something to him in order to reinforce this bond that had developed. Professor Ogden could be a valuable asset as a mentor as well, there were countless benefits. But it would take deciding what to confide that would seem serious enough to warrant his concern, but not so much that she had to worry about his own secrecy.
But the universe had other plans. With a nearly blinding bolt of lightning and its accompanying roll of thunder, Marlene found herself plunged into darkness. Immediately she jumped up, eyes wide as she looked around in the pitch black surroundings. Her wand was out in an instant. "Lumos." she said quickly and then looked into the blackness at her wand. "Lumos! Lumos!"
As her wand refused to work, her attempts at the spell became more and more frantic, shaking her wand in her hand as she tried desperately for some light. "Oh Merlin are they here?" she finally whimpered.
