Nuclear War started by North Korea The richest and brightest under 45 were collected as quickly and quietly as possible and boarded onto ships to escape Earth. Numerous ships around the globe did not make it, either due to not leaving in time or due to malfunctions. After a year ships begin to dock at stations for reasons of trade and politics. Within the second year a planet is discovered that could possibly be the answer to their prayers. A large experimental group of men and women aged 18-25 are sent down only to parish during an unexpected storm no one could have planned for. The beginning of the third year saw a large accident which caused the destruction of an entire station and the loss of the majority of the Asian populations. It is the end of the third year and another planet has been discovered. This time the environment appears better suited and more tests are conducted to help those in command gain confidence that they won't be losing the rest of their youth. A large vote is held at a nearby station and those who are not willing to participate leave to find another planet. Those left behind compile their lists and select 25 men and 25 women of the same age group who are all healthy, skilled, unburdened and most importantly, fertile. On the outside, it is once against portrayed as a lottery of sorts, each chosen young adult informed only a week before they are set to board their shuttles and be taken down to the surface. The bit about fertility conveniently left out of the dialogue.
The planet isn't very large, roughly the size of Earth's moon. It appears to have many geological similarities to home. Scans have been conducted of the atmosphere and the oxygen levels have been deemed sufficient for human life, even if breathing may be quicker and heavier. It will be like living at a high elevation but not unbearable.
A makeshift summer camp has been erected roughly 1.65 miles South of a large fresh water lake that was edged by cliffs. There was a forest of dense trees to the East that curved around to the North as well and then to the west it opened up into a valley.
Sturdy tents have been constructed from tarps and a few long term facilities are in production. The camp is set up in half moon shape. The tents face away from the lake toward the doctor’s office, the lab space, a cafeteria of sorts and a pad for growing. Behind the tents were a few communal bathrooms that are still being tweaked. At this point the only things with running water are the labs and the kitchens.
Tents were originally assigned randomly with one male and one female. Frankie and Gideon took it upon themselves to unofficially tweak these are arrangements to be far less...creepy. Known couples are priority. Siblings are housed together after that. Friends after that and random same-sex individuals will pair up for the rest of the accommodations.
These tents are equipped with cots, linens and small desks. They are like portable dorm rooms; functional, sorta of comfortable, and smaller than anyone will like.
Everyone had been subject to monthly physicals while aboard the ships, something that will continue on the planet.
Greetings fellow New Earthlings! Just testing out the communication pads that were developed while in transit. If someone can message me back that would be great! Thanks! There will be surface wide meeting when the sun sets. Please get settled in and see you all soon. Welcome!
The message written by Dr Brianne Lewis, flashed on the communication tablets that had been given to everyone that came to the surface. They will be able to communicate with each other easily and also keep track of their own thoughts. These tablets have been programmed by Brent Howell so feel free to bother him with issues and/or suggestions.
With the setting of the western sun came the first meeting. It was easy to tell that a number of people had zero interest of being there, but the only way to quiet the alarm on their tablets was to check in. Ultimately, it wasn't too painful. Frankie introduced himself properly for those from other ships who may not have known him, giving a random fact about himself to break the ice before going through the rounds. Rules were set out, expectations discussed. It didn't take long, and everyone was made to sign their understanding of these things on their tablets before the meeting became less dry...in both material and beverages. It was only right to start things off properly, even if the commander himself did not drink.
"SPEECH! SPEECH! SPEECH!" could be heard all around him, as Frankie stood once more to get the attention of the young adults under his command. They seemed to be a friendly bunch, a few obvious problems here and there, but he'd used the time of socialising to scout those out and mentally preparing himself for how to curb that negative energy into productivity of some sort. What he couldn't prepare himself for, were the reactions to the last bit of information that was necessary to get through. He'd first nudged Gideon to give it a go, but the other man was clearly not having any part of it. And then there was Brianne, but somehow Frankie didn't think anyone would appreciate her general approach. Especially from someone who looked as young as she did. It was only fair then that it would have to be him and he'd have to find a way to make it not seem like the end of the world for a generation of people so unsure of their own places in the universe.
"All right, all right, settle a little, would you?" he smiled, those deep dimples doing him even more favours than his calm voice did. "Down to business- pun painfully intended. There's just one last thing we need to go over before we can excuse you for the night. It's a rather important one, heavily implied though not said out right for one political reason or another. Honestly, I'd be surprised if a good number of your didn't already figure it out. New Earth is not just our new home, but subsequently, the home of those after us. The idea is that our children will only ever know this place as home, and there children and so on. Yes, this means that we have been chosen to repopulate the human species. It is because of this objective, that they will not be supplying us with contraceptives. Yes, I know that it is a lot to digest, but it's also a bit obvious if you give it a moments thought. I also know that there are other methods to decrease your chances of conception, that is your prerogative, I'm not about to police your bedroom activities." Frank told them and in an attempt to calm a few down, he ripped a stack of papers in his hands in half as if he was ripping up orders to do just that. It wasn't, the papers in his hands were simply filled with inspirational quotes he was suppose to read out to get rearing to go, but that was stupid. He wasn't going to talk to these people as if he were a them set out to ruin their lives. The last thing he wanted was to be on the them side of a us vs them mentality. So instead, he was just going to be honest with them and let them be as creative as they wanted until eventually their own creativity became the thing to betray them. "Just be aware of this when you're making decisions tonight. Every decision today impacts the way of tomorrow. It always has and it always will."
