The first few weeks in a new city were always the most hectic. He had roots to put down, connections to make, supplies to requisition. The errands were endless, especially when he was planning on staying for more than a few weeks or a single job. He hadn’t needed to do it in several years, but it had become so ingrained into him that it wasn’t difficult for him to start again. Something he had been mostly busy with for the past several days.
The date was likely a mistake, but it was one he was willing to make. With his luck, she wasn’t even going to be cute. But, everyone needed time off, or something to distract themselves, and this was one of his ways. If nothing else, it was an evening spent enjoying himself, whether or not she did was yet to be determined. Though, he didn’t quite buy the Scrooge act, his personality wasn’t always for the majority of people.
For this particular evening, he dressed up, though he didn’t get formal on it. Nice pair of black slacks and a white button up shirt marked most of his outfit. Over that, was a fairly heavy coat, though given the weather outside that wasn’t something he was gonna go far from. He never thought he’d miss British weather, but Chicago was colder than he had expected. Not as cold as some places he had visited, but those were just visits. This was going to be something far more permanent.
He arrived a few minutes early. David had already scouted the place out the night before, just in case. Worst case planning was something that had also become second nature to him, even in something so casual and innocent. But now, it was just a matter of seeing if he actually was going to have company for dinner, or if he was going to end up getting stood up.
