Helena was so close to being free and she was counting down each five minute block that led her there. Until that moment though, Helena had to actually keep working, which right now involved switching jobs, from cashier to restock, which first meant moving through the backstage areas of Tescos, those exciting dark corridors of pointlessness.
That was where she heard someone yelling from inside one of the storerooms and for a moment her heartrate sped. Demon, was her first thought. Demon, right here in her supermarket, attacking someone in the middle of the day. Holy shit, Helena was not prepared for demons! She didn't even have her phone on her to call Deirdre!
But then she heard that the man was calling Let me out! and not help me I'm being attacked! and, okay, so Helena could do something here maybe. But, just in case, Helena grabbed a short metal pole from one of the nearby shelves - itself a part of a display in progress - and moved towards the door. It was jammed shut, stuck on itself and she thought maybe the person inside might be pulling it it as well? She said, "hey, it's okay!" to whoever was in there and gave the door one tug, and then another, and then on the third it came suddenly open and swung wide. Helena had the pole gripped in her hand hard but it was just Joss on the other side, looking shaky and pale.
