Anniversery (Thomas, Danny)
Over the holidays Danny had tried to stay away from Thomas' house, just to give the man time with his family. He knew Thomas was going though a divorce and that had to be really hard, especially around Christmas. But today was the anniversary of London College's shooting. The anniversary of Melissa's death.
Danny didn't want to impose on his mother's grief, and so trooped over to Thomas' house after ten in the morning. He knocked feebly, wondering if he should really be bothering Thomas with this. But the other man answered and offered Danny a sad smile.
"Hard day?" Thomas held the door open for Danny, who made a beeline for Thomas' sofa.
"Shitty. And maybe it'd be a little bit better if I could talk to my girlfriend, but Rachel won't answer her phone and her dad's an arsehole and Cai's grandpa died and everything sucks!" Danny took a second to breathe really hard and then he chewed on his lip for a moment. "Sorry. Can we watch something."
"Of course we can." Thomas handed Danny the remote and settled down on the sofa as well. He was pleasantly surprised when Danny leaned his head against Thomas' shoulder. Danny had never really been that physically affectionate with him before, and who could blame him? He wasn't going to knock it, nor was he going to call attention to it.
And so they sat there for hours while Danny mutely watched IT Crowd. It would have continued too had Thomas' stomach not growled. "You hungry?" Thomas asked Danny who shrugged. "Have you eaten today?"
"Felt too sick," Danny moved anyway, so Thomas could at least feed himself.
"I understand that. I think it might be a good idea to try though," Thomas said gently. "I'll make something, alright?"
"Have you ever been kept hungry?" If Danny had known Thomas would freeze hard and drop the remote as if he'd been shot, Danny never would have asked. "Shit, I'm sorry!"
"No, it's-" Thomas blinked at Danny and turned to face him. "Why do ask?"
"Greg. Kept me hungry," he admitted quietly, even though Thomas knew. Thomas had been there at his rescue. "I just- Sometimes food- I get all mixed up. It reminds me of him. I'm sorry, Thomas, I shouldn't have asked."
"It's okay," Thomas assured Danny, even though Danny still felt incredibly shitty. "I have, and it's horrible. I understand all mixed up. I'll make something but it's your choice whether or not you eat it, okay?"
Danny nodded, watching Thomas head into the kitchen warily.
