I go down to Speaker's Corner, I'm thunderstruck
Who: Olly and Trick
What: Venting about Jack and Cha getting caught up in a protest
When: Monday, March 23, late afternoon
Where: Ink Inc
Warning: Language

Olly had to get back to work, as little as he liked the idea. The fact that he'd had to borrow Trick's truck to go get his very pregnant twin sister and his uncle's pregnant mate from the courthouse because they'd nearly ended up in a riot. The pepper spray from both women was still making his nose and eyes burn almost as much as his temper. Olly was not quick to anger by nature. He'd grown even less easily provoked after years of exposure to human society, where lashing out with violence was frowned upon except under very specific circumstances. But he really felt like maiming the idiots in that crowd. Who used pepper spray around pregnant females? Were people really that- yeah, he knew the answer to that. The public in general was a bunch of stupid, greedy, morons.

He'd had a smoke after he'd gotten back, although he might head downstairs to Trick's workroom for a joint to settle his nerves more. Olly had sent one of the pack members to get Chahna's car and return it to Travis' home. It shouldn't have been a big deal for a couple of women to run some damn errands. But no, the antisupernatural shit was building, a lot like ten years ago when the whole thing came out. Except back then his sister wasn't alpha of the biggest fucking pack in the city and twenty weeks pregnant with triplets. From now on, he or one of the Uncs could run the errands in the city. That's what subordinates were for, dammit.

What was bothering him more than the fact Jack and Cha hadn't been doing a damn thing to deserve what happened, was the fact that it was happening. There'd been antisupernatural protests since the whole coming out shit. But since that fucking demon had blown all the windows out of downtown and practically given every caster in the city a damn seizure, things had steadily been getting worse. And they were going to get worse until they exploded. Badly. Considering he was the alpha male of the largest pack in the city, that put Olly family and friends right in the crosshairs of the bad shit that could happen.

Pushing open the door, he tossed Trick's keys to him. "They're okay," he reassured his best friend. "A little rattled and they both need to wash off some pepper spray." He shrugged out of his cut and the sweatshirt under it. "Jack said they recognized her. She wasn't sure if they were running to stand with her or call her out. Hard to tell and either way could have been a shitstorm." He groaned and scrubbed his hands down his face. "Fuck, why did I want to get involved in this shit again?" Yeah, he knew the answer to that, but it didn't make him feel any better about his loved ones being in the middle of the shitstorm building.

Trick hadn't really expected Olly to come back and wouldn't have blamed him if he didn't. He didn't know all the details, but he knew enough to be just as angry as Olly was. Women and children were never supposed to be the targets of bullshit and it irked Trick's temper enough to make him want to tear off someone's head. When he came back through the door, looking pissed off but not bloody, he heaved a bit of a sigh of relief and caught his keys.

The verbal reassurance made him feel better, too. Tucking the keys into the drawer near his chair, he let out a breath and leaned back in his seat as Olly started to explain what had gone down. It didn't make it any better. The fact that those fuckers - on purpose or otherwise - had set off pepper spray on two pregnant woman was enough to make his blood boil. He had to admire Jack's ability not to explode and rip their heads off considering the pain she'd likely been put into. The woman had the willpower of a saint.

"Because you love your sister," he told him simply. "And you're meant to rule beside her. We all know that. Have known that. You're just late catchin' up," he teased, flashing a teasing half-smile in Olly's direction. "You coulda took the rest of the day, Ol," he told him. "After that shitstorm, I wouldn't have blamed you."

Olly snorted. Yeah, he'd done it for Jack more than anyone. But also for Siobhan and the pups and the pack itself. Nobody else would have been willing to be subordinate to a female. Even one who was a strong leader. That didn't mean he enjoyed any of this politics shit. Inside and outside of the pack.

"AJ was already hovering around her wringing his hands," he told Trick. "Travis whisked Cha outta there so fast I think Marcus thought they were having a race. I'm glad they left him at the Den." If there had been a pup to protect on top of it, there was no telling how it might have gone down. "Jason was with them when I showed up. Never been so happy to see a cop in my damn life." His attitude towards the SCU was softening bit by bit. Jason had gone to bat for them repeatedly, Bill had always been good to him, and Dr. Song had helped prove Deacon had tried to set him up. He would never admit aloud to liking any cop, but he disliked them a lot less than most.

Olly shook his head as he headed over to the sink to wash his hands. "If I went home, it'd just worry Shiva too much," he added. "Besides, what was I gonna do? They were in the wrong place at the wrong time. It might not even been because they recognized her. You know how demonstrations in this city go." Usually property damage, injuries and arrests. Even the goddamn teachers' union demonstration had nearly ended in a riot. It was more Chicago than anything.

"I expected that," he said, chuckling softly. AJ would likely be hovering over her for weeks to come, especially with the load of pups she was carrying. As if the kid needed any more worry lines in his forehead.

"Everyone's pretty lucky they left the pup at the Den," he said, shaking his head and pushing his hand through his hair. Shit would have definitely gone down differently if they had a little one along with them. It was bad enough to have two pregnant women with pepper spray in their faces, but a pup? He didn't even want to think about it, so he pushed the thought out of his head posthaste. "Just glad they're both alright," he said.

He nodded as Olly continued. He knew that he was right. He'd just worry Shiva by coming home early. And there wasn't much that could be done. It worried him, though, that things seemed to be getting more demonstrative. "Antisupernatural groups are coming out of the woodwork," he told his friend. "I have the feeling all this is gonna get worse before it ever gets any better."

Everybody expected that. AJ was like that naturally, but with Jack pregnant with triplets he'd just gotten a million times worse. Sometimes he wondered how his independent, I-will-do-it-myself sister tolerated the constant fussing. Especially pregnant with triplets.

"Yeah," Olly agreed. "From now on me and the Uncs will do those kind of errands. She needs to be resting. Mom's been hinting for at least two weeks it's time for her to go on leave. Hopefully now, Jack'll listen."

He shrugged, pulling a paper towel from the holder to dry his hands. "They've been around since we were outed," he reminded Trick. "Even before, really. It always gets worse before it gets better. Just how much worse is what I'm worried about. I don't see Deacon's concentration camp shit happening, but they already suspect that arson that killed Mandy's foster kid's parents was super hate based." He heaved out a long breath. "And just who's gonna get the worst." Even with all their wards and protection, not even Trick or Olly's families were completely safe. Not with their kids in public school and out in the world.

He nodded. He thought it was wise to have the Uncles and Olly do the errands. Especially as Jack progressed through her pregnancy. Olly and his uncles could protect themselves better. Not that Jack couldn't, but she would be fighting for four and it wouldn't exactly be something that anyone wanted to go down. She needed to be resting, like Olly said. "Good," he agreed. "Hopefully your mother will be able to talk her into it. Or maybe AJ will fuss at her enough to convince her."

Trick didn't have to be reminded that the antisupers were around long before now, but something in the air felt off to him. It was getting worse and he was worried just how much worse it would be, just like Olly. "Hate's always gonna be around and always has been, but we're gonna have to make sure we're watchin' for it more," he said. "Keeping track of it. Just in case." He knew that they weren't completely safe, as much as he wanted to believe that they were. The kids had school and jobs and were out in the world on a daily basis. He couldn't lock them up, as much as he might like to.

"If it was super hate based, that fire, there's no tellin' if they meant to kill those people or not," he told Olly. "And if the did mean to kill them, that just makes this even worse."

Olly chuckled. "I swear he's the only person in the world who can actually make suggestions to her without her arguing just out of pure stubbornness." He leaned against the counter, folding his arms over his chest. Ever since the demon's attack on his family, Olly had been tempted more than once to lock his wife and pups into their well warded home. Or at least send half the pack to guard them when he wasn't around. But he knew that wasn't practical, especially since Shiva was only now really getting past it.

He nodded. "Yeah, I plan on it," he admitted. "The really fun part will be keeping Jack updated without making her feel like she needs to lead a war party to deal with the problem." Olly heaved out a breath. "They set fire to a house with people in it. I don't care if they intended to kill them or not. When you set fire to a building with people in it, you know you can kill them. If the cops don't find the fuckers soon, I say we deal with it for them." Yeah, so he was still on the warpath some. Nobody could blame him.

That was the damn truth. AJ brought out a side of Jack that no one else ever had. It was nice to see her happy. Nice to see him alive and breathing after the hell he'd been through since he moved to the damn town. The fact that he was still topside was a damn miracle.

He nodded. "I think we're going to have to. The only problem is that I'm worried it's not just one little group. Hell, I know it's not. Maybe the fire was concentrated, maybe it's linked to the other shit happening around here, but it's gonna be hard to figure out who's just blowing smoke and who's actually dangerous." He sighed and scrubbed his hand over his face. "We'll have to watch and listen. Figure out the best road to take on this."

Olly growled softly. "I think I'd rather chase my tail trying to find that fucking demon," he grumbled. "Than try to figure out who's actually serious about killing us all and who's just showing off their hate pricks for the media." He scrubbed his hands through his blond hair. "You hear of anybody taking credit for that shit?" Whether they were actually the perpetrators or not really didn't matter. If they'd take credit for it, they were worth looking into.

"There's been some talk here and there," he told him. "Mostly hushed whispers in the bars around town. Gossip, I'd bet, but as soon as any of the boys hear any names, we'll run down the leads." Letting almost kid killers get away with murder wasn't going to happen. If the cops couldn't figure it out, Trick was on board with Olly and the rest of the Draoi helping him take care of business instead.

"They'll hit again," he said. "I just hope we can get to the bottom of this shit before any other kids are left orphans. Or worse."

"Yeah, I got some of the pack doing the same," he said. "They're supposed to report to me, not Jack. But there's a chance they'll disobey that order, since she's dominant alpha and they still don't trust me completely." That was frustrating for Olly, but he understood the mentality. He had a lot to prove, considering his reputation as a fuck up and a rebel against the old ways. He'd had to earn his place in the Draoi and now he had to earn the trust and respect of his birth pack. It was the same thing really.

Olly nodded. "Who knows, maybe it was just a bunch of gangbangers who didn't get their protection money," he sighed. Which was an unfortunate reality of the city. On the street level, the city was run and policed by various gangs who had carved out their own pieces. The Draoi had theirs. So long as nobody messed in their territory, it really wasn't any of their business until it could be proven to be antisupernatural. "You and I both know it's gonna be way worse next time. These things only escalate."

Trick nodded. He knew that it still got under Olly's skin that people in the pack didn't trust him completely, but Trick was sure that they'd eventually come around. Olly was a man of his word. Aside from Rosie or the kids, Olly was the only person that he trusted completely with his life. He'd never let him down before and he doubted he ever would. He'd prove himself to the wolves that didn't trust him completely, though. Trick had no doubts of that.

"Maybe," he said, nodding a little. "Could be anything. That's the problem. There's dozens of options of what it could have been and until we know, we can't really do shit." Olly was right, though. It was definitely going to be worse next time. He let out a sigh and nodded. "Yeah," he agreed. "I know. I'll need to talk to the boys, make sure they know to be watching out if they're not home," he said. "There's no telling who these fuckers might target and they should be prepared."

Olly nodded. "Yeah, I'm honestly more worried about the teenagers than anybody else," he admitted. "Both yours and the kids in the pack. The older ones have done this before. They'll watch the young ones. Including mine. But your boys, especially Caden." Trick's younger son was a chip off the old block. Which meant he couldn't keep his nose clean and out of trouble. Especially if he saw something he thought was wrong going down. "Kid's way too much like you, brother."

Trick sighed. "Don't I know it," he muttered, shaking his head. Aidan was more like his mother. Cautious. Caden, though, couldn't deny his roots as far as his father was concerned. If he saw something wrong going down, he'd intervene, even if it meant getting himself into trouble. Trick knew that his son was just like him and it wasn't as though he could really reprimand him for it. "Even if I talk to him, it ain't gonna change that," he sighed. "Can't change somethin' that's that deep in his DNA. I'll talk to Rhi and Nate. Maybe they can buffer it out with him a little. I don't want this shit rolling downhill onto yours, mine, or ours," he sighed.

Olly nodded. "Yeah, that's what friends are for," he reminded Trick. "To pull you off the idiot who pissed you off before you end up in a holding cell. Or sitting next to you." Olly had done both more than once. Trick was mellowing in his old age, especially since Lily had arrived on the scene. It was a good thing, really.

"I need to talk to Rhi again," he admitted. "See if she's interested in joining up with pack yet. She has her little pack with the boys, but it's not the same thing and her wolf knows it." Yeah, Olly would rather worry about problems he could deal with instead of ones looming on the horizon that he couldn't. "I hate saying this, but humans shouldn't raise weres. Not by themselves. Not when they don't know shit about them. Just messes up the poor kid's head. Especially like Nina." Rhi's mom was a waste of space, only interested in chasing cocks and drinking.

Trick chuckled a little, shaking his head. Olly had pulled him off of more than his share of assholes that had tipped his Irish temper. He knew that he was mellowing out a bit, but the fire was still there when it needed to be. Going to jail, though, when he had a baby at home, wasn't something he was trying to do if he could help it. Lily needed him. Rosie and the boys did too.

He nodded at the comment about Rhi. He also couldn't deny that he agreed with Olly about humans raising weres. "It'd be different if she knew shit about the way werewolves work," he said. "Or wasn't so busy doin' anything but takin' care of her daughter." If Nina wanted to be a whore and a drunk, that was her business, but Rhiannon should have come first. "Course your wife might say different about humans raisin' weres," he teased, smirking just a touch. "Better not let her catch you sayin' that."

Olly wasn't planning on spending anymore time in the lockup. Especially after nearly ending up with two murder raps last year. He was trying harder to stay out of trouble, for everybody's sake. If he got arrested and jailed now, it would be a stain on his whole pack. Fuck, he hated having to be a responsible damn adult.

"It'd be different if she knew shit all period," Olly corrected wryly. He couldn't agree more that the kids should come first. "Shiva is always the exception for humans when it comes to wolves. We're lucky she's not one, or my sister would have serious competition for alpha."
