It would seem that great minds think alike if both Alec and Ashley’s responses to Ryan’s journal were anything to go by, both men of the same opinion that Ryan couldn’t be allowed to visit the Zoo alone. What sort of friends would they be if they didn’t at least offer to go with him? Granted, Alec could have done without Ashley insinuating that he’d be taking them out like he was their… parent or grandparent even, but given his age he supposed he should be used to remarks like that by now.
Taking time away from the Carnival was good for more than one reason, especially if it meant you returned to it feeling as though you’d recharged your batteries. Sometimes the Carnival’s energy and atmosphere could get a little suffocating, especially with so many different types of people and personalities under a relatively small tent. Besides, Ryan clearly need to shake off his recent transformation and if the Zoo was the place he wanted to go even with the risk of the animals going nuts then he wasn’t about to do it alone.
Alec had dressed as casually as possible for this outing: a pair of jeans, a dark t-shirt, sturdy pair of boots and shades. He hadn’t bothered with a hat because he knew better than most what company he was going to be keeping and three men with hats would look a little on the strange side. And yes he was the driver, meaning he got to choose the music, even if Ashley seemed determined to play havoc with the radio without either hand being anywhere near it. Made smacking him to quit doing it all the more difficult.
The weather was good so that gave an optimistic feel to the day because nothing sucked more than visiting the Zoo and for the weather to take a turn for the worst, especially as most animals tended to take that as a hint to go inside and leave you staring at many empty cages.
Alec turned the wheel into the parking lot of the Zoo itself, seeking an empty space with his ridiculously good eye sight and smirking when he spotted one not too far from the exit. Clearly whatever Gods were left in this world had a soft spot for him. He turned the wheel and pulled into it, smoothly and without a lot of hassle because despite his stumbling when cars had made their first appearance Alec had now mastered the art of driving and in particular, parking.
“Next time,” Alec remarked as his eyes took in Ashley in the rear view mirror. “You’re riding shotgun so I can actually hit you for changing the station so much.”
