WHO: Isaiah and Mia
WHAT: Cuteness, cotton candy and a proposal...about living arrangements
WHERE: The midway // Mia's Trailer
WHEN: During carnival hours
RATING: O for OMG Isaiah can not be a homicidal crazy? Low-ish. His thoughts are still bad sometimes.
STATUS: Complete
The carnival had been...interesting to say the least. Isaiah had never seen such a concentration of supernatural creatures in one place. He'd also never really met any other humans with special abilities like himself. It was a lot to take in, surely. And yet there was still that singular presence that made his blood boil. Since joining up with the carnival in Savannah, he'd learned some about just what had been happening in his life. Apparently the dog he'd always seen through his life was called a Black Dog. An omen of death. It made sense now, why his mother had died and he'd seen the dog on the screen when he'd watched the news report. And with this Black Dog following him, eventually he would die. And she would be there. Aubrey, he'd learned her name was. Seeing her from day to day ignited that hatred easily, though with so many people around it was impossible to act on his impulses when he really wanted to. That didn't stop him entirely, however. He'd made attempts on a couple occasions, but still the bitch just didn't die. It was infuriating, to say the least.
But when Aubrey wasn't his focus (and that was a bit rare in the day to day)...he had a different focus. One he hadn't planned on, truly. Mia was a girl he'd met shortly after beginning his work as a rousty. He'd been fuming over a run-in with the damned Black Dog when she'd caught his eye. Those blue eyes had literally just made him forget what he'd been thinking about entirely. It was almost like a trance, even. Something he couldn't deny. She was sweet and absolutely beautiful, and though he hadn't been anticipating anything of this kind happening, he felt the need to talk to her. To get to know her. It had been entirely out of the blue, and yet he just couldn't mind. It was impossible to think of it badly when he looked into her eyes. In fact...it was impossible to think of a lot of things when he looked into her eyes.
He'd caught himself thinking about her as he wandered around the carnival. His hands were slung in his pockets as he walked. Gaze looking past the patrons he walked by. He wasn't truly focused for once, which was strange. Isaiah halfway wished that he had something to do with his hands to really occupy himself. He halfway wished that the damned dog would provoke him so he could have an excuse just to do something.
Mia... was not the easiest person to know, she was easily made uncomfortable- even more easily startled. Besides, being slight and delicate, the half-mermaid could flee like a bat out of hell. One moment there and the next she'd be running for cover- anywhere but there. Isaiah didn't scare her though.
He was one of the nicer people, always so polite and considerate (and human, he was not going to have her for lunch). A relief. It wasn't long before she began seeking out his company, talking about little silly things or such. She'd wanted to show him around but she knew the carnivale little.
After all, it had only been a few months for her.
She was retreating from the cotton candy stall (holding a huge, huge pink cotton candy that was bigger than her head) when she spotted Isaiah walking. The girl lifted her hand and waved, "Isaiah!" which really looked like a cotton candy with a body waving.
Oh well.
He'd been rather wrapped up in his own thoughts, to be sure. Not really concentrating on where he was walking, yet avoiding walking into one. Not having a clear destination in mind, but still seeming like he had somewhere to go. Still, his mind wasn't really focused. But the thing that brought him out of that haze was the sound of a voice. A particular voice that made a bit of a smile come to his lips without him even thinking about it. Isaiah looked around to see where it was coming from, seeing what looked to be a puff of cotton candy with a body waving at him. He assumed that Mia's face had to be behind that cotton candy, and that made him laugh. He changed his course, walking over to meet her and peer around the cloud of pink to smile down at her. "Ah, I thought that was you. Last I checked, cotton candy couldn't talk. That, and it's nowhere as pretty as you could ever be." He chuckled some. "I'm not keeping you from anything, right?"
Mia was several shades of red and flailing inside at his words, yeah, he was just being polite but it still made her...well, shy. And giggly, so damn giggly. However, she fortunately avoided giggling, taking another bite of her cotton candy. "It's great, I treat myself to them when I do something right. Like positive reinforcement." Or something, not that she was a dog but...ah well.
"Nope, just taking a break. How are you settling in? I... I haven't seen you much which is a shame." Two fingers tapped his upper arm, "Come on, I'm heading back to my trailer for a while, if you wanna come."
He noticed the way her cheeks reddened and it made him chuckle the slightest bit. Good-naturedly, of course. He wasn't laughing at her. He was just pleased at the general atmosphere. "Positive reinforcement...I like that. Everyone deserves something like that every now and again. A reward, as it were. Cotton candy's a wonderful choice." Anything sweet would be, of course.
"I'm settling in just fine. Had a bit of a problem with a place to stay, though. Don't have enough for a trailer of my own, so I've been bumming off one of the other rousties. Other than that...I've been a bit busy." Which was true. Though besides his rousty work, he didn't ever want Mia to know just what he was busy with. The invitation back to her trailer made him smile the slightest bit. "Sure, if you don't mind."
"Not at all!" Mia seemed rather enthusiastic, "I live alone, so it is a bit too big for me at times. Any company would be most welcome." She didn't find it hard to be around him, she found it particularly easy to open up and talk to him about her grandparents, the absence of her parents- about music. Anything really, it was comfortable.
"My place is a little bit um... in need of decoration, but I haven't been here long so." She led the way to her trailer. It was simply decorated; fairy lights curled on the far end over a bed. There were books, an portable electric keyboard, and it ... well it was simple, neat but welcoming. It needed a bit more of decor and a bit more of making it 'hers'.
"Um, please make yourself at home, I'm not sure if I have anything to drink that you'd like but- oh here." She passed him her cotton candy.
He was glad to see that she wanted him around, though for some reason he couldn't really understand why it made him so deeply happy. He ignored the feeling for now, simply smiling a bit. "Well, I'm more than glad to be able to keep you company." Talking with Mia felt nice, to be certain. And even if he wasn't forthcoming with everything (it was quite impossible for him to be really forthcoming) he could talk to her about other things. And it was really nice, to say the least. Comfortable. "There's nothing wrong with needing a bit of decoration. At least you have your own space to decorate, right?" He followed after her, hands in the pockets of his slacks.
Mia's trailer was simply decorated, but there wasn't anything wrong with that. It didn't deter from the welcoming feel, and he was comfortable being there. He took the cotton candy when it was passed to him, smiling some and taking a piece. "Thank you. Really, you don't have to fuss over me, Mia." He moved to hand the cotton candy back to her. "You should make yourself comfortable too."
"I am." The half-mermaid informed him cheerfully, "I'm comfortable and grateful." She was genuinely affectionate, unable to mask any emotions. Instead, they all seemed to flow, like water. After a moment or two she passed him a glass of water. "If you want it. I don't have much things here."
"I gets a little lonely." She admitted, "I mean, honestly I'd be scared to sleep with anyone else in here, but sometimes it does get a little lonely."
He took the glass of water gratefully, taking a sip. "Thanks." He really was fine, though he wasn't going to just turn down her hospitality. It wouldn't be gentlemanly on his part. "Loneliness is never good. Perhaps I can come around and keep you company more often? I certainly wouldn't mind it." When he wasn't doing work, he wasn't quite sure what to do. That was, aside from seeking Aubrey out...
"Oh, could you please?" Mia seemed to cling onto his offer like it was a life saving offer, "I'd be very glad if you did that- but, only if it is okay, I..." She fidgted a little, "I wouldn't want to cause trouble for you." Really, she liked Isaiah a lot, the last thing she wanted to do was for him to run off because she was too demanding.
"I mean if you're not settled in a trailer yet, maybe we could... share?"
"It's more than okay. If it wasn't, I wouldn't offer," he said, smiling easily. "It's really no trouble, Mia. Not at all. I rather like spending time with you. It's a nice change from all the work I've been doing." And he really and truly meant that. She was almost like...what would you call it? Perhaps a breath of fresh air? Not something he'd at all anticipated, but it was nice nonetheless. "And besides, we can't have a lovely girl like you being lonely, now can we?"
The offer to have him share the trailer with her, however, had come completely unexpected. For a moment, he was silent, simply mulling it over. "Oh. Well, that's very generous of you, certainly. I wouldn't mind staying here with you, if you really would want me to stay here."
Mia was suddenly very interested in staring at her fingers, waiting for his reply- the agreement made her cheeks go a very deep shade of red. Well. It could be taken in another way what she was asking (though truly, it was an innocent request, nothing but the purest of intentions- a dash of selfishness for wanting his company more).
"Of course, there is no one I feel more comfortable around with." The mermaidling confessed. "You're nice and... well, yes." She fiddled with her cotton candy, but suddenly didn't feel like taking a bite. "I can help you move your things and we can... we can decorate it however we both like."
He highly doubted that Mia was asking for less than honorable reasons. Quite honestly, she didn't seem at all the type for that. And the deep red blush in her cheeks made that even more obvious. He was tempted to chuckle, but he didn't. No need to make her think that he was laughing at her. It was more like...being amused at the situation. "I feel very comfortable around you too. And I really appreciate the offer. It's better to share a living space with someone that you know, right?" Better than sharing a trailer with a rousty twice his size that honestly didn't seem as keen on sharing his space as he said he was. "I don't have very many things, so it wouldn't take long to move them, I'm sure."
"Alright!" Mia seemed to have a burst of energy drawn from his approval and the fact he didn't laugh in her face at the offer. "Well, whenever you're ready we can do that." It was not hard to put a description on the feeling right now- butterflies (with rabies) were clawing at her stomach. "I'm really happy you're going to stay Isaiah, it's good to have a friend around here. Someone close." And non-scary, like Angel. Even if he was a little peculiar.
Of course he didn't laugh in her face. Why would he have ever done that? It was nice of her to offer to share her living space with him. "I'm happy that I'm going to stay too. Having a friend near is better than most anything in the world, isn't it?" Not to mention that, at least on some level, he was thoroughly looking forward to being able to see those enchanting eyes of hers and hear the musical sound of her voice that calmed him so easily. "Thank you for offering, really. I appreciate it quite a bit."
