"Just stay still," Magdalena instructed Natalie, pausing briefly to make eye contact with her before resuming her artistic endeavor. She was kneeling on the ground in front of what appeared to be a disembodied head rooted to the ground by its neck, applying a far too meticulous mustache underneath the nose of it with a small red sharpie. That "it", of course, was none other than a newbie to the carnival, Natalie. Maggie always did her best to be welcoming and friendly and assumed she'd been doing rather well thusfar except that, well, Natalie didn't seem to be particularly thrilled about her current situation. "It'll be just a little bit longer - we want to win, right?" she added with her best encouraging smile, trying to calm the new girl's nerves.
She was quite happy that she wasn't the one buried to the neck in sand and having a mustache drawn on her. It just so happened, though, that Natalie was surprisingly willing to be buried and Maggie knew that this was likely the best opportunity they would have to squeeze in the mustache bit. Sure, it was a shame that the only thing she could find was a red sharpie, but she figured it would wash off and all would be well. Besides, Natalie was new. If anyone had to have a red mustache applied to their faces, it should definitely be the new girl - Maggie and Aubrey both had seniority.
"How's it looking?" she asked Aubrey, moving aside to give her a better view of her handiwork. She wrinkled her nose with concern, "I think it's a little uneven on the right, but maybe passable?"
