Ashley had gone over to Julian’s trailer as soon as he’d seen the message posted on the journaling system and let himself into Julian’s trailer using the key that he’d been given all those years ago. It jangled on the small keyring he always carried with him on his inside jacket pocket and he’d sat still and silent as Julian conducted his familiarity experiment, surrounding himself with objects and, as promised, he did have a minor freak out at the way Julian shuddered and shook and the way his eyes rolled back in his head as if he were fitting. But he didn’t do anything, didn’t say anything, and when Julian came round, Ashley presented him with coffee and cookies and just asked him if he was okay.
The answer had been something along the lines of ‘getting there’ and they’d left it at that, talking about all sorts of other things, interesting and the mundane until it dawned on Ashley that there was something… not quite right, even though Julian had done the whole… fixing thing. He refrained from asking for a long while, just wanting to make sure that it was right but eventually, Ashley’s impatience and concern for his best friend won out.
“Okay, so what is it?” he asked, eventually, because he had been so patient for like, three hours now, just trying to make sure that he wasn’t seeing things, and he definitely wasn’t. “I’m glad your experiment made your head all quiet and calm and stuff, but… there’s something else going on up there,” he leaned forward and gently tapped Julian’s forehead, “so… you wanna share with me? A problem shared is a problem halved and all that shit.” He smiled a little, touch lingering on Julian’s temple for all of two seconds before he returned to where he was sat opposite his friend on the floor of the trailer that did, in fact, still look like Hurricane Cole had rampaged through it. There was an odd disturbance near the counter and opposite wall, like… he wasn’t sure, like there had been a fight or something, but Julian wasn’t much for physical confrontation, so Ashley didn’t quite know what it was.
