There wasn't really a great deal of complicated to-do that went into Siobhan's preparation for each night. Her makeup (waterproof) had been painted on earlier and her tank (filled) was already waiting. So her shirt went up and over her head, shorts shucked and neatly folded for later, and she hopped over the edge of her enclosure, sinking to be bottom for a few minutes and waiting for the creeping slide of the change along her limbs.
Pretty much the direct opposite of complicated.
Sugar surfaced easily and snagged a bag of candy-floss from a passing vendor, taking a bite out of it and leaving a smear of bright blue sugar behind on the tip of her nose. Which might have ruined the unearthly illusion a great deal more if the elaborate appendage flitting beneath the water hadn't continued merrily fluttering of its own accord, seeming to keep its own pendulum-time along with her absent humming.
She pulled off another chunk of spun-sugar with a self-satisfied smile, folding her arms along the edge of her tank - hair dripping steadily onto the pavement and fingers sugar-sticky - and settling in to watch as everyone else finished setting themselves up.
