"Forgive my inability to remain delicate about this, but... if we don't eat food, then our body does not have to expand energy to digest. When we drink blood, every... every pore in our mouth seems to open up, like pouring water on a dehydrated flower. We absorb every drop of blood and nothing is wasted; our body soaks it up like a sponge and always craves more. If we waste that blood with things like chewing or... digesting, or... defecating," he said as politely as possible, though he still had a faint laugh of derision, "then it's for no purpose whatsoever. I'm not even entirely sure we could taste it, as our taste buds don't seem to work the same way. Our entire body is rewired during the transformation, until everything in us is screaming for a bloodlust to be sated."
He paused, then smiled. "But I would probably lick the spoon, just to be sure."
