"We are all monsters by that definition, Dasha," he said quietly, his tone almost sad and his back still to her. He paused, then looked over his shoulder, a thin, wan smile upon his lips.
"It is kinship between monsters that keeps us from our personal hells. My soul may be damned, but there is nothing more cursed than a lifetime of our length spent alone."
He closed the curtain to her dressing room politely behind him as he left.
