If Maram had been treating Damien as an individual that was lessor than her as a whole, or a pet, he barely realized that fact. A part of him enjoyed the way that she treated him, it was one of the reasons that he hardly hesitated venturing over to the Carnivale and away from the company. All his life he had strived hard to earn a top spot in such a field, but he gave it all away to work for the woman before him. She did have a tight hold on him, even though he was unaware of it. "See, that wasn't so hard," he replied with a grin as he felt her finger nail against his nose. Even though there really wasn't a need to tell each other that. it was evident when she asked him to come, and he came without any trouble.
As much as Damien knew everything about running the company, it almost felt as though he couldn't fill in the shoes fully that Maram left behind around the other co-workers. The exact thing that he was missing in their eyes was never that clear to him, but then again, the woman before him worked hard to get the respect that she deserved on a daily basis. It probably would have taken him years to achieve that. "You really did shock everyone, Maram. They almost didn't believe that you were actually gone. I think some believe that you're on an extended vacation," he answered with a bit of a chuckle. It really was hard to believe that they were both there compared to a large office back in New York.
Damien watched Maram walk over to the blinds for a bit, listening to her every word. Some of the women there were attractive, but not the way that she was describing them. He always thought she had a bit odd taste in companionship, but it was her choice in the end. After all, Damien had no say in it, nor would he want to make her think that he did. Either way, he knew that she wasn't being all that serious in her words. "Along with scales, tails, and forked tongues," he answered almost leaping out of her chair on command. Just as Damien rounded the desk in front of him, another chair had appeared on the opposite side. "Oh, now you're trying to spoil me, Ms. Uzma. You really didn't have to." Even though his words stated otherwise, he did like the gesture, which it showed easily the way he automatically sat in the chair with comfort with the letters in his hand, opening the top one.
"But, it sounds like you have admirers already," he stated with a simple raise of his eyebrows. "These people better have treated you with respect this last month." Even with a simple sentence uttered, it was clear where Damien's loyalties were.
