Having spent the best part of an hour navigating the area, by now he'd realized that not everyone there seemed to be entirely human. He'd learned early on that there were many different species in the world, but never had he been in a place where they were so... concentrated. At least, if his senses were picking up all the signals right. He had no reason to doubt them. They were what had helped a once-naive youngling get this far in life. He stood by them now.
It was the same finely-honed instincts that alerted him to the matter of someone trailing him. Not in a slow, gradual way - there was rarely anything slow about his reactions - but out of the corner of his eye he'd caught a sense of the presence twice, and that was all it took. A stranger. Not Dracon. While he didn't know what the years might have done to his paltry excuse of a brother, Devon knew for certain he'd have recognized if it was him. Until then, any attention directed toward Devon had been only what he'd permitted it to be, and his initial impulse was to turn around immediately. But it had never felt so crucial to avoid causing a scene, and he was not going to achieve that by stirring up a fight. In any case, doing so would have taken more energy than he had to spare. It took enough of him not to say anything right then.
There was a strange uneasiness that stiffened his shoulders for only the briefest of seconds, hidden under the cover of clothes and shadows. He paced as far out of the main hum of activity as he believed was possible without making the movement obvious, passing behind various stalls filled with all manner of food that infused the air with potent smells and tastes. Even those were not enough to distract him from his temporary diversion, however.
Then, he span on his heel to face whoever it was that he'd felt getting a little too close for his liking. He shoved his hands into the pockets of his jeans, causing the loose material of his open jacket to bunch up behind his wrists. With the movement came a quick scrutinizing flicker of his eyes over the man, and a question.
"Somethin' I can help you with, or were you just enjoyin' the view from back there?"
