When Fred said that it might be best if her parents didn't know of this life, Rupert nodded in understanding. She was probably right - given the things they knew and did, it might be better if they were kept outside it. He knew it wasn't because she was embarrassed. It was simply safer. He was sure that Fred would be devastated if something happened to her parents, and the less they knew, the better it would be for them.
"It's fine. I understand," he assured her, reaching up and running his hand through her hair. "I'll leave any decision you make about them up to you. You know them."
As Fred got up, Rupert reached over to grab a kleenex from the bedside and clean himself up a bit. He tossed the kleenex away as Brahms jumped up onto the bed, pressing against his leg. He smiled and shook his head - the cat had also managed to wriggle his way in, he thought as he reached over to scratch his head.
"I have to get her a ring," he told the cat thoughtfully. "Think I should surprise her or take her to pick one?"
Brahms simpled yawned and lay his head down.
"Thanks for that," he said with a laugh. Getting up, he went into the bathroom and moved up behind her, leaning down to kiss her neck. "Maybe we could go shopping after we take care of other things. We could go to a jewelry store or two."
