Ivy had been thinking about Lucas a lot since he'd kissed her. Not that she hadn't thought about him a lot before, but even more since then. She'd kind of been avoiding him, because she wasn't sure what to think and it was the end of the world and that was kind of the reason she'd been thinking more about him.
It was the end of the world. And they were cleaning out the garage and none of the people who went in might ever come out. Honestly, every day could be their last. Which was part of the reason she'd come to the conclusion she needed to do this now if she was going to. And she was going to. Because then if anything happened to Lucas, she'd at least have a superspecial memory of him. She wanted that. Memories were all she had left of her dad, the only way she managed to keep going without him. That was why she spent so much time with her mom. So she had as many memories of her as possible.
Just in case.
She'd waited until Becca had fallen asleep in one of her rare, short naps in the evening after most people had gone to bed. The long day of summer weren't here yet, where they could continue to work until almost 11pm and the sun was up by 4am. It wasn't the dead of winter, where the nights were so long they seemed endless. It had been fully dark by 8pm, which was when people started breaking off to bed down for the night. There was no reason to stay up late, unless they were on watch. The lights were off, only a few candles burned in individual rooms as people settled in for the night.
Ivy stopped in front of Lucas' room, hesitating to puff up her courage before she knocked. She wanted to do this. She just didn't want to make a fool out of herself or embarrass Lucas or...well, yeah, she just needed to do this right.
