Re: Saturday: 1:00 Ryan had chosen the slot right after lunch because he knew if he'd gone later, his stomach would've started growling mid-song. That would've sucked, so he made sure to come on with a full stomach. Once he could see everyone was settled in their seats, he walked across the stage to the microphone. The stand needed to be adjusted, but once he did that, he bounced on his heels just a little bit.
"Hi! I'm Ryan Sparks and I'm a freshman and I'm going to be singing 'Call Me Maybe,' by Carly Rae Jepsen!" He introduced himself before looking up to the tech booth and waiting for the music to start. While he loved the original song - who didn't?! - he'd decided to go in a direction similar to fun.'s cover, aka slowing it down just a little bit.
"I threw a wish in the well, don't ask me I'll never tell, I looked to you as it fell and now you're in my way," Ryan began, still holding onto the microphone as if it would keep him from falling off the stage. He wasn't often outwardly nervous but when he was, it was easy to tell. "I'd trade my soul for a wish, pennies and dimes for a kiss. I wasn't looking for this, but now you're in my way!" The more he got used to being on stage, the better, he thought. Ryan took the microphone off its stand, and started trying to play to his audience.
"Your stare was holdin', ripped jeans, skin was showing. Hot night, wind was blowin', where you think you're going baby?" While he'd never really tried to flirt with anyone before, he was sort of flirting with the Warblers now - and he winked right after he sang the last line. "Hey, I just met you - and this is crazy, but here's my number, so call me maybe?" As he sang, he did his best to catch everyone's eyes at least once. He'd noticed in the Youtube videos he'd watched that the Warblers made you feel connected and he was determined to get that across.
Of course, then he had to look away. "It's hard to look right at you, baby, but here's my number, so call me maybe." As he continued to sing, Ryan was clearly making himself comfortable, even flashing a quick grin at the audience. Broadway was a little more comfortable for him, but he wouldn't have been able to move around the stage as much. He returned to his original place, "And all the other boys try to chase me, but here's my number, so call me maybe."
Ryan kept singing, doing his best not to go over the top. He was still flirting with the audience, but it was toned down from say, singing in the shower. Plus, he was wearing clothes, so that helped. During the third repetition of the chorus, he even did a few dance steps he'd worked up. They were nothing fancy but he thought it showed that he'd been keeping up on his Warbler performances.
"Before you came into my life, I missed you so bad, I missed you so bad, I missed you so, so bad," He slotted the microphone back into place as he sang, hands coming up to hold it again. But this time, it wasn't from a place of nerves. "Before you came into my life, I missed you so bad, and you should know that." As the song came to an end, he couldn't help but smile. This was the reason he liked the stage, because all those people watching? They were watching for him and he was pretty sure they had genuinely enjoyed themselves.
"So call me maybe?" The smile was still on his face as the song ended, and he couldn't help but just bounce a little bit, waiting for their questions. This was probably the most fun he'd had all semester.
