COMPLETE
The carriages were long gone, clothing was neatly placed in their trunks, owls had been moved to their place in the owlery while toads and rats had their cages set up and were probably already asleep for the night. Meanwhile second through seventh years were already crowding the great hall for their seats on the benches, meeting with old friends and introducing themselves to people they'd somehow overlooked last year. House ghosts and others were already going this way and that, retelling stories about what had happened over summer vacation--and what they'd overheard professor's talking about. The Grey Lady was especially talkative for once, simmering in a delicate whisper to the Ravenclaw girls and boys close enough to hear her, "It really is a possibility, I have never seen such an uncouth woman before. You just know someone was tipping back far too much...." Her words were stopped mid sentence just as the Bloody Baron came flying past her with a warning glance before veering off to his own table, "Such manners, really." She huffed a bit and seemed to only want to look forward now as she drifted upward and out of the line of fire of the children within her house. Of course this only left the Ravenclaw table to wonder what the hell The Grey Lady would have gone on to say, or what she'd been talking about for those who had not heard from the beginning. Even Sir Nicholas and the Fat Friar seemed to be less jubilant than normal, and seemed to refuse to answer direct questions about what may have happened over vacation. Most of the professors were already taking their seats, to everyone's surprise even professor Bada was taking her place, though she seemed to be in mourning with her black dress robes and elegantly pulled back hair that made sure that her large eyes could be seen--and all they were showing was a deep sadness. Professor Aguilar, head of Ravenclaw, dressed in rich blue and bronze robes seemed to be dazing off into space (which those in Ravenclaw would know just meant she was in deep though over some great importance). There was a new woman as well, one with such short hair many mistook her for a male at first, the Hufflepuff table knew they were looking t their new head by the colors of her robes and some whispered back and forth with the gossip they had heard about Professor Oakby and where he'd gone, others said he'd been fired, while others still speculated on if he were even alive. However, Gryffindor and Slytherin would be for a shock when they did not find their heads of house staring back at them, instead a tall spindly woman with thin lips and vacant eyes happened to be dressed in green and silver robes while the charms instructor, professor Burward, seemed to be fixated on the Gryffindor table with his maroon and golden accented robes. Things had definitely changed. "I can't say I won't miss Miss Aideen, but I am sure oh snub-nosed Remoth is far more haggared about the change than anyone, what with the Ministry stepping in and all." Sir Nicholas seemed to say to himself as he looked towards the new Gryffindor Head. "Now I know some of you no longer care for the ways of old, but blood...now that woman..she is a true Slytherin, is she not?" The Bloody Baron laughed out and seemed to be cut off by a scream that came from a young girl at the other end of the hall. Almost everyone stopped, professors stood, and hearts sank. A scream, no one should scream, it was like making hissing sounds around people who had actually gone up against the Dark Lord. It brought up memories and sensations, non of which could be called pleasant. It was no shock to see sevenths and sixth years standing with wands ready and pointed towards the doors of the great hall. It was the first day only! What fresh hell was already beginning? "You stupid git!" The same girl soon yelled, something gelatinous could be seen flying through the air at that point, it looked a lot like a mucus-snake. The Gryffindor table erupted into laughter, it had only been a prank. Shaky laughter and sighs came from everywhere before an eruption of talk once more took over. Those who had stood were slowly sitting once more. Everyone was jumpy after all. Soon the doors were opening, Remoth seemed to appear from nowhere, leading the procession of first years across the stage, in front of the line of professors that had been sitting. The sorting hat, known to say something important during times of struggle seemed amazingly quiet this night. The hat seemed far more professional than it ever had, going through the students in an orderly fashion until each had been sorted. Yet, just as the hat was being taken away, as if waking up the seems where its mouth were opened and the word "wait" was able to come out before the new woman, the Slytherin woman, clasped her hand into the cloth of the hat and made her way into the back room where the hat would be placed. She moved methodically, without worry, even though an enchanted hat seemed to struggle against her. She would not return until after Remoth was finished with her introduction and normal greeting to the student body. Normal rules: Stay out of the Forbidden Forest, don't roam the halls after eight at night, no WWW products allowed on school grounds and so forth. Finally, once the professors were lined back as they were, she moved on to inform the students about the departure of four professors from last year, and finally started to introduce the new faculty. "Gryffindor house will be happy to meet their new head of house, and the new deputy headmaster, Professor Burward." She paused as Burward stood to the applause of not just his house but almost all students in general; maybe the prospect of having someone other than Remoth in charge of everything was something even the younger students understood the meaning of. "As for Slytherin" Remoth continued, as Burward took his place, "Professor Blishwick will be taking over both as your Head of House along with being our new Potions master." Blishwick stood, an eager and very snake-like smile curling her lips. She seemed to look over every student at the Slytherin table before sitting down again. "Saponaria Blanchard," Remoth looked to the woman and signaled her to stand, "will be taking over for herbology this year, her skills with plants is equal to, if not better, than previous herbology professors. I am sure she has much to teach all of you." Blanchard seemed to blush suddenly and did not remain standing long--in fact she seemed quite flustered by her introduction; there was hardly a clap for her, but it was more due to Remoth's words that had shocked the crowd into their silence. How heartless of Remoth. "We are also welcoming Coletta Darstling, all the way from America, as the new transfiguration professor. I am quite positive you will all find her a breathe of fresh air, the new blood transfiguration classes has been lacking for quite some time." Coletta did not bother to stand at her introduction, instead she cocked her head up slightly, more to move the rim of her hat from her face as she looked out towards the others, she knew exactly who had taught transfiguration before her and refused to stand. It was going to be tricky enough to get students to open up to her without making it seem as if she wanted to actually take Minerva's place; or that she could be better than Minerva, as Remoth had made it seem. Remoth frowned momentarily just before moving on, "Lastly, as I am sure many of you have already heard, Professor Weasley chose to leave over the summer, but we were more than lucky to have found one of the top magizoologist to take over for Care of Magical Creatures, Professor Mai, who will also be taking over as the head of Hufflepuff." Mai stood, she seemed like a solid woman who would have been happier to be outside than in the hall at the moment. She looked over her table momentarily before taking her seat once more. "Considering last year, this one will be, by far,a better experience, but enough of that now--I'm sure you're all famished." Remoth smiled, if you could call it a smile, and as usual the tables filled themselves with all sorts of foods, cakes, and drinks. This of course was Remoth's cue to head to the center of the table, and interrupt a whispered conversation Adelis was trying to have with Bada. Funny enough, all though Keegan, Rose and James were missing from the Gryffindor table, no one seemed to notice. Three star quidditch players and yet no one noticed their not being there. Thora and Iresh, both Hufflepuff quidditch players, and both friendly and outgoing students...yet their house did not notice them either. No one seemed to think it odd that five well known students were missing, not even their family. |
