THEODORE NOTT & CHARLIE MONTGOMERY
"he needed some comfort after his conversation with lavender"
CHARLIE'S PLACE | PG-13
“Huh,” Charlie said looking down at the text messages from Theo. He wasn’t usually the sort to need a friend out of nowhere and she had a feeling whatever was going on it had to do with his heart. Frowning, she headed to the kitchen making his favourite drink, grabbing some snacks and heading to the living room where she set it all down.
She heard him open the door and walk into the flat. “Back here,” she called. His footsteps sounded vastly different from Tracey’s. When she saw him his expression confirmed exactly what she feared.
“Come here,” she said standing upright and heading towards him wrapping her arms around him.
Theo wasn’t a person who enjoyed physical contact. It’s not that he hated it and avoided at all costs, but the less people he touched, the better. However, he and Charlie had been way closer than the average people he would avoid hugging. And honestly, he needed some comfort after the conversation with Lavender.
He wrapped his arms around her and buried his face in her hair for a moment. He sighed and pulled back, sitting defeated on the couch. He handed her his phone with the conversation open for her to read.
Taking his phone she started to read the texts. What she wanted to say was fuck Lavender Brown and her stuck up- but she didn’t instead she took a moment before saying anything.
“I know you don’t want to, but it might be good to move on from her,” Charlie offered softly. “She causes nothing but pain and you deserve better.” Charlie knew not everyone thought that about Theo, but she did! She knew he deserved a heck of a lot better.
Theo rubbed his face with his hands and sighed frustrated. “I know, I know... But I can’t. She’s like...” he paused trying to find a good word to describe his feelings. “Like a drug, except I’ve never fully tried it. All I keep getting is little taste and it’s driving me insane... Is that normal?” He asked, looking at Charlie.
“Yes you can!” Charlie said putting a hand on his shoulder. “You can. It won’t be easy but you can, I know you after all.” She pointed out with a small smile. “And maybe she is just that thing you can’t figure out, I know how much you like to figure things out.” He wouldn’t be an unspeakable if he didn’t enjoy it.
“You have too much faith in me,” he said. But part of him knew she was right. He couldn’t let one person drive him as mad as Lavender did. It wasn’t healthy. For any of them. Maybe Lavender was right and it was for the best of them if they stayed away from each other... But part of him knew he wouldn’t let her go that easily.
“It’s just going to take time, how about every time you think about her you text me and I’ll be your support in getting over her.” Charlie offered, honestly she thought Lavender Brown was a stupid idiot but she wasn’t going to tell Theo that.
“You don’t have to do that, Char. I’d get annoying, I’m sure.” Did he even want to get over Lavender? His head was a mess right now. And so was his heart.
“Well better to help you get over her than you moping about and missing out on something fantastic!” Charlie pointed out. “You just need to be open to change for change to happen.”
“But I am allowed to mop a little bit today, right? Just a little?” he said with a small pout, not wanting to think about getting over Lavender for a bit.
“Of course you are, you have to get the sad out of the way before you can move on with your life,” Charlie said, moving just enough to wrap an arm around him. “But I am not letting you stay in this phase long.”
“I know you’ll probably smack me out of it, literally,” he teased lightly as he rested his head on her shoulder. He always found her comforting.
“That or I’ll just find you someone even better and you’ll be wondering Lavender Brown who? She doesn’t matter!” Charlie insisted. Hoping she could find someone good for him.
“I don’t know if I should even be allowed to date, anyone. I’m a terrible boyfriend,” he chuckled.
“No, you aren’t!” Charlie insisted. “We dated, I thought you were a perfectly good boyfriend.” She shrugged. “Just because our spark wasn’t the lasting kind doesn’t mean I thought you were bad.”
He raised an eyebrow at her. “You’re too nice, Char,” he said with a soft smile. He knew he wasn’t a great boyfriend, though. He missed a lot of lunches and dinners because he had been -- and still was -- too focused on his job.
“Come on, let’s watch a movie, your pick, drink, eat, cuddle, and thinking about anything other than Lavender Brown,” she smiled softly. “Deal?”
