Yelena shrugged. "I probably seem like I am casual about sex, but that's just because of..." She thought of how best to phrase it without revealing too much of her own bloody past. "My work. Believe it or not, I actually didn't really care about sex with anybody."
She went on, struggling a little to categorize how she felt, sometimes at odds with how she currently felt nowadays. "It wasn't something that felt very important to be seeking out, the way it seems to be for some people. Modern hookup culture for young people like us, people are always on the apps or in bars, on the prowl to 'get laid'," she said, complete with air quotes, motioning with her fingers. "It wasn't until I came here, and then what happened wasn't exactly something either of us planned. I didn't expect to meet someone who could get me so easily. Get me and not judge me for it."
Hal. It was the first time she's noticed him mentioning a specific name when waxing poetic about love. She lit up. So there was someone he was interested in. Although it sounded like that someone was back home. "Is Hal the bloke you mentioned before?"
When Tom apologized for being self-deprecating, Yelena grinned. She again waved at the movie screen, on which Ryan Gosling's character was giving Steve Carell's one of several love tough speeches he offers the man over the course of the movie. "Confidence is half the battle. Fake it til you make it."
