"Thanks," Adam said with a nod at John's offer. So far, not so awkward. Granted, they'd been talking for all of sixty seconds, but Adam had been awkward around John the very first time they'd met -- it was easy to be that way, from what he'd figured out.
He wasn't sure what else to say for a second, before his brain properly kicked into gear.
"So, scale of one to ten, how weird is this place for you? 'cause I gotta tell you, I'm running somewhere between a three and a four depending on the day." If that didn't tell John his son had been through some shit, Adam wasn't sure what would. He wasn't trying to guilt John, or throwing it in his face, it was just the truth. Spend some time in hell with an archangel in your head, your weirdness barometer gets utterly screwed.
