"I will beat you," she said. She knew that people had different powers, but she'd survived against all odds fighting giants that were ruthless. She was used to fighting when the odds were against her. "Unless someone is dying, I don't cry." The last time had been when Arwin was dying, but otherwise, she'd seen too much misery to cry for other reasons.
She nodded. "We bunked together at the academy, then we were split up in different unit. I was in the Levi squad, we were Scouts, going outside of the wall to explore. We were out for weeks and too often the ground was our bed. You stop worrying about things like rooms, beds, bathing," she said. "I love showers. We never had them. If I never see a tub of dirty water again, it'll be too soon." She knew all about training and armory, though. "So how long have you been in the... glaive?"
She wasn't very convinced. "I don't think it's the years on the planet that makes you a kid, but what you have experienced in that time. I don't know this roommate of yours, but it all depends. Some people here seem to have lived very sheltered lives. But I respect your opinion so when I beat you, just remember that a kid did it." She would have laughed, but other images came to mind. "Titans came through the wall and in an hour the entire city was destroyed, the survivors turned into refugees with little food to go around, and it still doesn't sound as dangerous as what Connor witnessed."
Mikasa was glad that she wasn't the only one who thought that way. "I didn't even go to school, so I don't know all their science talk, but I know what I can see." She wished she'd gone to school now, if only to be able to read, instead her phone would speak the words or she'd never be able to use the net. "Do you have that stone to make you stay then?"
