Yelena & Bucky
The thank-you dinner had been Steve's idea. Yelena managed to talk him down from inviting Will to one of their large Avengers family dinners. She had the impression smaller, quieter gatherings would be better for Will. Judging by the way he seemed to bristle around Thor's exuberant personality, Yelena knew she had been right. Even that seemed to make Will nervous.
Bucky's question drew another thoughtful pause. How much should she reveal? "Honestly?" Yelena shrugged. "Not as much as I'd like, and not too much more than what we recovered about the Winter Soldier program from the facility in Siberia."
That had been Alexei's task. She wasn't even there. But poring over the data afterwards helped her understand enough to track down his Bucharest safehouse.
"There were newspapers over the windows as well as curtains. You prefer the dark. Also it keeps out unwanted eyes. There was a mattress riddled with bullet holes. Courtesy of the GSG 9 during your escape, I'm guessing? No bed frame, so you must have slept with it on the floor. It was positioned beneath a window so you would have an exit at your back while keeping every other exit in your line of sight. The mattress could be moved to cover the window, and there was a table in the kitchenette, in between the front and back doors, to cover those if need be. How am I doing so far?"
