He supposed that Sirius had a point. "There's always the quest for immortality, but that usually ends up badly for all those involved. And, I didn't mean just me, but everyone. Life is full of obstacles and miserable that we need to get through to get to those few moments of happiness, which usually come down to very simple things." He hinted a smile. "It didn't work like that in my world. I'm one of a kind. Others are either or, mostly." Hayley and Hope were the other exceptions, but it always came down to the Mikaelson blood. "Werewolves turn on the full moon and vampires can't walk under the sun." Unless you had one of the rings, but again, that was down to magic.
"Imagine having six siblings and living with them through the centuries. We've all tried to kill each other on occasion, but it never sticks," he said with a shrug. "Do you have siblings?"
Klaus laughed. "Oh, I know it's not Scotland. I spent a fair amount of time in your fair country, but if you are pretending to be in Scotland, then do a better job." He snorted. "I was there when they were building the dungeons in stone walls and people used torches. It was rather brilliant. People were so naive and easily surprised. It was wonderful to see the world with such innocence. Now everyone is jaded and cynical, they get to where I am after living a few decades instead of centuries. There's something about old architecture, though, bridging the past and the present. Take New Orleans, for example. It's a vibrant modern city, but so much of the old exists. Granted, the plantations and slavery aren't a paradigm of equality, but that's history."
