The morning after she slept over in Will's room, she found herself back in her own, despite the handcuff. Which did not come with her. Although the borrowed shirt did. Yelena had never been so glad for her vision to return. There was a lot to process about what almost transpired between them. The only regrettable thing in her mind was the need to hit the pause button, but it was worth thinking through and possibly discussing nonetheless.
There would be time for that since they had a standing fishing lesson. She hoped that it would still happen because she really was looking forward to learning how to fish. She hoped he wouldn't deal with it the way some men did when they felt awkward about something and either ignore it completely or 'ghost' her.
In the end, she proved difficult to ghost. In the days following, she would hear a bark at her door and find a mini gang of dogs waiting. But they weren't there to see her necessarily. They were waiting for Fanny. Fanny, to her surprise, would bark in return and trot out, slinking off with her canine friends, leaving a slightly bewildered Yelena in her midst.
Tonight, when the bark at the door came, Yelena was going with them. She folded up Will's freshly laundered shirt with the intention to return it and followed Winston, Buster, Max, and Fanny up the flights of stairs to 415. She watched in amazement as the dogs let themselves in. As soon as the door opened, she could hear the shower running. Yelena didn't want to invite herself into Will's room but she felt equally awkward loitering outside in the hallway. In the end, she crossed over the threshold and closed the door with a louder than necessary bang, hoping the noise would announce her presence, before hovering just inside the doorway.
