It was said that if one of the senses becomes impaired, the others intensify to compensate. That was certainly Yelena's felt experience now, if she could calm down enough to recognize that and weed through the overloading sensory input, in lieu of her vision. Like most people unused to not being able to see, the sudden need to adjust was disorienting and frustrated her.
The snuffling pitter patter of animal feet descending the staircase outside stood out in stark contrast to the surrounding ambient noise. The initial surge of fear at unknown creatures approaching and approaching fast made her nervous, but she heard the barks to distinguish the animals as canines. She felt a cold wet nose butt up against her fingertips.
"Fanny?" Her tone was disbelieving. Yelena could hardly dare to believe it. She couldn't explain how she knew it was her dog, as opposed to any other, but the answering bark confirmed her suspicions. "FANNY! Hi pretty girl."
She felt for the familiar furry head and followed by touch down to the floor where she knelt, burying her face against the dog's neck, hugging her and holding on for dear life in sheer relief. But that wasn't the only comfortingly familiar presence. In the time it took for her to shake off the overwhelming panic enough to reorient herself to the present and confirm that her dog had somehow come to Crown Plaza, a familiar voice called her name, following by a grounding touch.
"Will?"
The flurry of activity surrounding her now suggested there were more dogs than just Fanny in the room with her. Did Will and his dogs somehow bump into Fanny and find their way to her? Maybe the angel that supposedly appeared in the library earlier really was an angel.
Yelena reached out and laid a shaky hand over Will's, where it was on her arm. "Will... I can't see..."
