She could understand the desire to turn to substances to drown out aspects of their gifts or simply the hardships of life itself. There are many who might not be able to imagine that a Frost like herself would even experience any hardships. Hers were hardships of a different sort.

Adrienne listened as Dan shared what he went through. Particularly what he chose to do in order to protect his niece. People called Emma the ice queen, but Adrienne was arguably the more ruthless and heartless one. At least she was the bitch and the villain in Emma and her precious students' book. They loved their headmistress. No one loved her like that. Not her husband. Not her family. She doubted anyone would have risked it all to protect her the same way.

"Abra is lucky to have you," she said quietly. It was perhaps one of the most heartfelt things she's uttered in a long time.
