Senku caught the wince and kept cutting meticulously as he did, mindful of the shift in position. "I've been here several months. And I'm the last person you're going to offend. I collected things for rebuilding society." He paused, adjusting the scissors briefly before continuing. "I have two before now. My first before, I was a high school student with dreams of going to space and becoming an astronaut. Built my own rockets and actually got a few of them into the upper layers of the atmosphere. Even had test dolls to verify if we would have survived being in them. Local scientist, basically. My old man was an astronaut and was up in space when it all happened."
Here, Senku paused momentarily. "One day, everyone turned to stone. Swallows and people. I have yet to figure out the connection, but it was on my list of things to do. The world kept turning around us, things deteriorated as they tend to do. Thousands of years passed. I can give you the exact number, if you'd like, because I counted the entire time I was turned to stone. I finally woke, somehow, and we had nothing: everything was gone."
He fell silent for a moment to make some adjustments as he kept cutting Ben's hair. "But I had science on my side. We could rebuild. So, I built my own shelter, make shift lab coat for clothing. Eventually, I figured out how I broke out of the stone and used that formula to wake up a few others who could help. We learned we weren't alone, that after the event, my father and his crew came back down to Earth. Repopulated and saved humanity." Senku shrugged. "But they didn't have our technology. Think stone age level, at best."
