Bucky + Peggy
Peggy chuckled at his description of being here as a sort of forced retirement. That wasn't so far fetched. Being something of a workaholic herself, Peggy could relate. Nothing sort of injury or infirmity could sideline her. She imagined it would always be this way, unless she found a good reason to slow down and not run off to work at the crack of dawn everyday.
"For some, perhaps that is the only way retirement could happen."
Leisurely reading, yoga, cooking. All of those sounded like perfectly lovely pursuits. Slow paced and meant for relaxation. And therefore decidedly not the first activity she would turn to given the choice. They rather sounded like activities she might fill up her day with had she married Fred Wells. Her brother Michael was right. She desired a life of adventure.
But the adventures Steve and Bucky had had to contend with in the future sound like the sort that were draining. After all that, they all deserved rest more than a short vacation could afford them. She wondered if she had still been around and in fighting shape during that time, how she would have fared against the forces of Thanos. She had heard Steve tell the stories, quickly and in summary form, but she had to admit none of it sounded appealing.
"I thought I read something about a magical earring," she said when Bucky mentioned doing whatever it takes to stay.
Peggy wasn't sure if house building was something that was in the cards in this strange little pocket dimension of theirs, but they could get as close to that picture perfect image as possible. What stood out the most was how casually Bucky invited her to always be part of their lives in this fantasy future of his. It was as touching for her as it was unexpected. She had always thought Steve had the biggest heart, but now she saw it was Bucky who did. Perhaps they both did, these two rare gems amongst men. Right then and there, Peggy silently vowed to protect them always.
"Pie and crosswords." She smiled. "What could be more perfect?"
