It didn't matter how many times he did this, it didn't matter how often he said it, or how much he'd accepted it as his reality, being here with the people he loved, seeing their realizations about what had happened to him it never got easier. But when she wrapped her arms around him Sirius held on to her too, his face pressed to her shoulder for a moment just to feel her real and whole and alive there. "It's not your fault." He told her, in truth he felt like it was his own fault he'd ended up where he had. They'd had that brilliant idea to switch the secret keeper, he'd agreed they wouldn't tell Remus, he'd gone after Peter, all of it. It all came from decisions he'd made.
He gave her a small sad smile when she guessed that she could go back and change things, it would be nice if things worked that way, but he'd been here long enough to know that things weren't that simple. "People don't remember this place when they go back." He told her gently, "It's just a rest stop for a while, before it sends us back to our lives, nothing changes."
"I wish we could change things, I wish this place worked like that but it doesn't." He exhaled slowly. "But we can take this time as a gift, make the best of it while we have it."
