Lily turned sharply at the sound of her name, the rush of relief she felt at the sight of Sirius almost overwhelming. He'd been a staple in her life ever since she'd started dating James, whether she'd wanted him or not (and there had been times that she'd definitely leaned towards the 'not'). But now he was a crucial part of her life - a life that she'd been getting increasingly terrified she'd left behind.
But there he was.
She made a noise somewhere between a laugh and a sob and then was on her feet, hurrying across the space between them to fling her arms around Sirius.
"I'm fine," she said into his shoulder, feeling a smile finally inch across her face. "Well, not fine but... you know."
When she pulled away to look at him properly, her smile wavered, suddenly touched by concern. The moment of relief, wonderful as it had been, faded. "Sirius..." Lily's hand came up to touch his cheek softly. The cheekbones that so many girls had swooned over were harsher, and when she'd hugged him there had been a sharpness to him that she didn't recognise. And his eyes - his eyes were different.
