Eddie had tucked himself into the bathroom of the suite they'd claimed for the last thirty minutes. Richie wanted a date. They were finally somewhere it was possible and he wanted to take Eddie out, properly. Of course, he hadn't said it that way, the way Richie had asked him to dinner would have sounded to most people like something much more casual. But Eddie knew better. He'd gotten Bev to help him shop for something that felt nice but not like anything his mother or his wife or his boss would have preferred. The trousers and jacket were both made from lightweight linen, the shirt soft and drapey rather than starched stiff cotton. He didn't wear a tie and left the top few buttons of the shirt undone. Bev had even convinced him to cuff the bottom of his pant legs. It was probably still a little bit further on the formal side than the restaurant would require, but he wanted to look nice. Wanted to feel nice. It had been a long time since he'd been on a real date, even longer since he'd been on one he wanted to be on. And, he thought Richie would like it. Which was also why he'd insisted on getting ready separately. Because okay, maybe he was a little bit of a secret romantic too. The suite had plenty of space for them to part ways post-shower anyway. He kept his hair soft but brushed it away from his face. He paused, looking in the mirror. His fingers brushed his cheek, catching on his scar briefly as he wondered if he should shave again. He decided against it, worried focusing on the scar again would send his thoughts ito a place Richie had already worked him out of once this week. He looked good. Richie didn't care about them any more than Eddie cared about his. It didn't matter what anyone else wanted to say about it, intentionally or not. He slipped from the bathroom, paused to put on his shoes, and went out to the living area of the room. "You ready?" he called out, silencing his phone and slipping it into his pocket, "They're going to give us a shitty table if we're late for the reservation." |
