Regulus preferred the quiet solitude of the library, unlike those other rooms on the basements of the hotel. Those rooms that loudly displayed just how muggle they were. Regulus had mastered existing in the same room as all the muggle appliances in the kitchen, from one angle, a small step towards acceptance, from Regulus' point of view, that was a great achievement. The flashing neon lights and loud music and other noises of those other rooms (the bowling alley, game rooms, and the roller rink) were a bridge too far for him just yet. A wizard raised on purist ideology needed time to take small steps (or great accomplishments) into the muggle world. And so he was in the library, where the only reminder that this was a muggle world was the lack of moving pictures in the books. Regulus almost didn't mind by now, mostly because he was focused on reading histories and biographies, which didn't require pictures all that often. And that was what he was doing now. He was sat in a chair by a window. Most notably about him were his clothing - a wizarding take on a black three-piece suit and tie, impeccably pressed and neat - and the book he was reading: The Ideological Origins of the American Revolution. Two contrasting elements that those of the right cultural schooling would pick out as incongruent. But Regulus wasn't expecting anyone from his world to catch him in this predicament, he just wanted a quiet afternoon of reading. |
