She waited until after she was seated before answering him, and at that point she gave him something of a lazy smile as amusement danced in her eyes briefly, before finally shaking her head.
"You don't frighten me, Erik," she told him truthfully. "Most mutants don't, and aren't a threat to me up close." But since it was obvious he hadn't met his world's version of her (if she even existed, or would exist), Rogue opted to go ahead and explain after a sip of her drink.
"Ah moved 'cause of my power. Ah touch someone's skin, and ah pick up their powers, memories - even some of their life if ah hold on long enough. People have been known to end up in comas or die, especially humans. So ah try not to get too close to anyone. S'just instinct to move."
She held up a hand and waggled her gloved fingers in his direction. "That's why ah wear these, too - 'cause you'd be surprised how often people casually touch someone else without even realizin' it, particularly in crowds. And unlike you and most other mutants, mine's not one that can just be turned off whenever ah want."
