The nightmares may have stopped, but Audrey's body had become accustomed to the weird sleeping hours over the years and she still hadn't set it right again. That was what led her out to the greenhouse for the second morning in a row, poking through herbs and checking on some of the new ones she'd just planted. Most of those little buds weren't going to be ready in three weeks, but they were there in case she needed them in the future and the supply the hotel had given her ran out. Though, weirdly, things seemed to simply not run out around here. So maybe not. Still, it was worth the little bit of attention she needed to pay to them and how much she got in return. Maybe it was all the days she'd been spending out in the graveyard with Caduceus, tending to the little flowers he had planted out there. Maybe it was the fact that she was feeling all-around more settled. But it made sense to her now why people referred to gardening as a therapeutic activity. Meditative, even. And it was even better with a cup of coffee in her hand and her earbuds stuffed comfortably in her ears. She'd just clipped a few herbs and had them wrapped neatly in a paper bag to help dry them out a bit before processing, and was on her way from the greenhouse back into the hotel so she could top up her coffee and see if Joey was awake yet when she spotted a familiar figure approaching from around the other side. Eddie's dedication to his morning runs was admirable. Exhausting, but admirable. Audrey's brain had barely accepted that she was a whole person yet and here he was doing... physical activity. Weird. But she had been meaning to talk to him for a while now and with all the dying and disappearing it just hadn't seemed like a great time. Maybe now wasn't a great time either, but if the hotel had put them in each other's paths that morning it had to be for a reason. She popped out her earbuds and wound them around her phone, shoving the whole bundle in the pocket of her jacket. Then she waved him down and motioned back towards the greenhouse, assuming he would either follow her or he wouldn't as she stepped back inside. At least it was quiet, private, a little closed-off and with a nearly comfortable place to sit. Thankfully the Adderall had already kicked in that morning and the caffeine from the espresso was doing its job. Maybe she'd be able to keep them both focused on the task at hand and not divert into one digression or another like the had every time they'd talked since New York. |
