Theo tucked the phone away, and just sat for a minute, processing the new information that Draco was here. On the one hand, he'd missed his friend. On the other, there had been a rash of arrivals from his world and he wasn't sure how he'd thought about that. Yes, Longbottom and Weasley had been here for months, but aside from occasionally working together to replenish potions, they'd mostly kept their distance. That was fine. The other arrivals were from outside his time and therefore of little consequence to him. Draco though. Draco was different. Draco was his friend, yes, but he was also a symbol of his old life. The social expectations and judgments that came with being a Nott first, and Theodore second. He was a reminder of the sad, lonely life he'd left behind and was loathe to go back to, but he was also Draco. His oldest friend, and the boy who had sneered at Blaise when he'd made fun of Theo's awkwardness when they'd all been too young for Hogwarts. Draco who had suffered the same expectations and judgments, and had been forced to take the Mark where Theo had managed to escape it. Most of all, he hoped it was his Draco that had come through, despite all the baggage he brought with him, and not a Draco from far into the future. Or another version from another world, as it seemed this new Regulus might be. Nerves fluttering at what he might find, he headed down to the lobby to meet Draco. He was hard to miss. Platinum blonde hair, immaculate robes, and endearing sneer masking what Theo expected was confusion and some fear. He remembered feeling the same. He made his way over to his friend, who looked about the age Theo wanted him to be. "Draco. It's good to see you. When did you get here?" |
