It was a strange feeling, considering all that she'd gone through with it in the last year alone, here, on the island, and in the hotel. All the hours of training she'd used with it after she'd taken it apart and put it back together again as instructed by Luke.
She had thought to offer it back to Anakin when he'd arrived the first time, but hadn't had the opportunity to meet with him. Even now, he'd returned for quite some time before she'd actually made the effort of speaking with him.
The intricate command he held of the weapon was evident as she watched it come undone before her eyes. Each part floating separately between them until the two crystals glowed before them. And he smiled, and he sighed.
The pieces snapping back together surprised her and she was even more surprised when he handed it back to her. She wasn't sure why. Luke had thrown it over his shoulder when he'd taken it. Ben had tried to lay claim to it, but Anakin gently held it out for her. There was only a moment of hesitation as she took in the gravity of what was happening. This lightsaber had a legacy behind it.
She reached out with both hands to take retrieve it. "Thank you," she said, even though he spoke as if it wasn't his choice to return it. She held it to her chest as she thought about things she really wanted to ask. It was clear that her mind wasn't purely focused on pleasantries.
"I know you were...you worked closely with Palpatine." She felt it best to leave the title out, not too sure of how the time worked really. "I'm his granddaughter and I've never had the chance to meet him. Could you tell me what he was like?"
