The last week had been... well Matt couldn't say it had been all that different to things before he'd come here. He'd said he'd given it up and he had mostly but he wasn't so far out from that revelation that he'd forgotten what any of it was like, that fighting in the streets of New York here had been any different than doing it back home. And unlike before he had Clint at his side when he'd gone out there, after he'd made his promise to Karen that he wouldn't go out on his own. But New York was gone, he'd heard it when it happened, things like that, big changes he could track and when he'd gone outside he recognized it as the place the Hotel had been when he arrived, the sort of familiar version of their home city gone again. Which meant now it was time to take stock, people had died but then they had come back. Elektra for instance, a small part of him thought it shouldn't have been such a blow to lose her again like that, but it had knocked the wind out of him when he'd heard the news. And then just as suddenly she was back and Matt was - he didn't know. Things were so complicated here. It was why he'd asked Karen to meet him that afternoon in the billiards room, it was maybe a little bit nicer than their usual Josie's but it was familiar enough for what he had in mind. He'd gathered up a couple cue sticks and grabbed a bottle of whiskey from the bar along with a couple glasses - sometimes it was easier to talk with a drink in your hand. Or the burn of it in your throat, depending on just how deep they were getting. He wasn't sure, but he wanted to be prepared regardless. "Hey," He said, turning in her direction when he heard her come in, a small smile curling up the corners of his mouth as he greeted her, relieved that she'd come, that she was still whole that he had her here, like he was with Foggy and Elektra, things might be a little off at the moment between all of them but Matt was glad they were there regardless. |
