To add to not particularly wanting to release Thor’s hand, Diana didn’t even like in-line skates. “I do not care for them. I find them harder to manage, for some reason.” She shrugged. “And besides, you’re doing very well. My first time trying to skate was a disaster.” In point of fact, she had broken a friend’s hand. Well, not a friend. It had been a work acquaintance and they’d set some stupid holiday party at the roller rink, as suited the times. Valentine’s Day, perhaps? Anyhow, another girl had asked Diana if she wanted to skate holding hands, as she seemed to be struggling, and in the ensuing aftermath of Diana falling down, she’d squeezed too hard and broken her hand. Only a little, and Patricia hadn’t realized it had been Diana’s fault… but Diana had.
And more was the pity, Diana had figured out far too late that worse, she was fairly sure Patricia had a little bit of a crush on her, and then Diana had gone and broken her hecking hand. Not that Diana would have been interested, as she did not see women that way, but she might have known to let her down easily rather than um. Well, breaking her hand when she’d fallen and panicked. It had hardly been Diana’s first time falling down, but it had been her first time falling down wherein her feet had simply gone out from under her. Wheels were dangerous, as she’d learned.
“Is there anything you think I can’t do?” Soft, teasing, but just the slightest undertone of seriousness, because Thor did seem to have the utmost faith in her, and Diana wondered what she had done to instill such faith in him, to win such attention. He honored her, constantly, and Diana didn’t even know if he was fully aware of that fact. Still, she did wonder now if she could skate backward still, though she was fairly sure she could. “You must catch me if I fall.” Still playful, because she didn’t think she would, and even if she did, she knew she wouldn’t break his hand unless she intended to, and she would never.
She had been right, and a simple twist and rearranging of her feet had her skating in front of him instead, although she offset herself just slightly, so as not to get her skates in the way of his. Their hands were still linked, but Diana was looking up into his face anyway, a proud grin on her own because as it turned out, she absolutely could still skate backward, and that was kind of neat. It was the little things, perhaps.
At least until one of the laces she hadn’t secured properly skipped under her wheel, and you know, even Gods could fall down. She let go of his hand, because she already knew her feet were going out from under her, and she managed to scoot out of his way so at least she didn’t bowl him over too, but she landed squarely on her butt and was giggling too hard to get up.
