Thor could feel the burning in his chest. It was distinct, all-consuming, and most of all, he knew what it was. His body ceased to respond to his commands and he fell, watching as Ares stepped away and the world started to go black. Feeling faded and the world got cold. Then there was blackness, nothing. It was over, an instant dragged out to infinity in his mind. Diana's heartrending scream was the last thing he heard, the last thing he ever expected to, given he was aware he'd lost. He'd failed, again. An instant later, he was back in his own bed like nothing had happened. There was a scar, fourteen inches diagonally across his chest from his collarbone to his kidneys, top-left to lower-right. But it didn't sting, or burn, or... anything. He was healed, apart from the obvious remaining effect, but more than that, he could feel again. The lightning was back, as was his control. He was breathing, the air in the room cold against his lips as he drew it in deep and he could even almost smell the Freon in the AC. There were a few things to do now. He looked around for Stormbreaker. It was gone, of course, probably left in the care of someone Thor trusted after his end, if he was right and that wasn't all some nightmare. If so, it had been a vivid one. He didn't need long to figure out where it could be. There were three possibilities and he chose to start with the one who would also gain the most from his return. Thor decided it would be best to go to Diana. He grabbed the first clean shirt he could, a gray t-shirt, not tight like some of the others but not loose either, then pulled on his boots and headed upstairs. He knew which room was hers by now, but how long had he been gone? How much had changed in that time? Not much, he could only hope, as he knocked on her door. |
