Bev sat alone in the dining room, trying to force herself to eat a small meal, toast with some fancy jam she'd found in the kitchen. She hadn't much of an appetite in this New York, with Stan gone, Pennywise out there and Richie dying without any of the losers by his side. She simply knew she had to stay strong. Eddie was still there, along with a hotel full of other people. Movement near the window caught Bev's attention. She looked up to see an amazing sight - Ben and Mike walking past the window. They were the only two losers to have never been at the hotel in her time there and she missed them greatly. She jumped from her seat, running all the way out of the hotel and down in the street in the direction she'd seen them. Bev chased after her two friends, calling their names through the streets and all the way down a flight of stairs into the subway system. Finally, she had caught up to them. "Ben! Mike!" She wrapped her arms around both of them, trying to pull them into a group hug. "You can't get home this way. I'll explain everything. There's a hotel where we can be safe." Mike shook his head. "We don't want to go anywhere with you." "What?" Bev asked in utter confusion and dropped her arms down to her sides when they didn't return the hug. "You heard him." Ben muttered. "I can't believe I ever had feelings for you." "You did?" Bev asked and began to doubt whether Bill had been the one to write that poem when she was a child. She suddenly remembered a kiss that had saved her from the deadlights. "Oh, Ben." She reached up to touch his cheek and he pushed her away. An action that completely shocked her. Ben would never hurt her. "Slut." Ben snapped. Another thing he'd never do would be to shame her like that. "Leave him alone, Bev. You know what we have to do. You know what this thing that's inside all of us does. You know what Stan did." Mike said, with his voice sounding wrong. "Richie too. Suicide by heroics." Bev shook her head. "No, that's not..." She didn't have time to finish her sentence. Ben and Mike stepped off the subway platform and onto the tracks. A train, moving way too fast, barrelled down the tracks and ran them over. A horrified scream escaped Bev's lips and she stared down the at the tracks, seeing only blood. The blood began rising higher and higher. There was too much of it, almost like a river than began to flow into the platform. It made Bev realize that she hadn't really been seeing Ben and Mike. It was all just a Pennywise illusion. She stepped back and began running up the stairs. The blood was moving so quickly, covering her shoes and her slacks. Her feet began to slip as she tried to make her way up the stairs. Noticing someone from the hotel at the top of the stairs, Bev realized they were likely responding to hearing her scream. "Hey!" She called out. "Go back to the hotel!" She had a clown to kill, if she could ever get her footing. She didn't want to risk anyone else. |
